Knicks & Nets Season Opener In Jeopardy

As the city tries to recover from the devastation left in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, the fate of Thursday's scheduled season opener between the Nets and Knicks in Brooklyn is up in the air.

NBA spokesman Tim Frank tweeted this about the league schedule Tuesday morning: "For the many asking: Tonight's NBA games will be played. We are still assessing the situation with regards to the rest of the week."

Whether Thursday's game can go off as scheduled could depend largely on whether or not the city's subway lines can begin to be restored by then.

MTA officials said it could take anywhere from 14 hours to four days just to clear the water from flooded subway lines, which would then need to be assessed for repairs. The Smashing Pumpkins concert scheduled for Wednesday at the Barclay's Center was cancelled.

The Nets canceled a planned practice Tuesday, with no word yet as to whether they will be able to return to the practice court Wednesday.

If it takes 4-5 days like reported to get the subway systems running, the Knicks & Nets may not play at all until next week.

Would be a shame really. Really wanted to see Knicks-Nets and then Heat-Knicks on Friday

The people in that area shouldn't even care about this game right now.

    +1.

I'll be bummed for sure, but there are more important things in life than a basketball game.

I suppose I got lucky. The storm didn't knock out my power, and I could barely tell it was raining out. Unfortunately it is next to impossible to get to the Barclays Center with no Subways

MSG was fine, so was the stock exchange - they are not sure on how fast they can turn over the subway but I'd imagine they are working rapidly.

Would have been a nice start to the season but I just kinda shrug my shoulders if it doesn't happen - especially under the conditions.

Move Friday's Game to Miami and switch it with another Game that is in Miami to New York.
\Move Nets/Knicks Game to another city near by like Columbus.

I had no College on Monday and Tuesday because of Hurricane Sandy and because of that I am grateful to the Hurricane. But take away NBA season opener of my fav. team for a week and I get mad.

Manhattan bridge and brooklyn bridge are open, but the FDR Drive is flooded and remained closed from 116th st all the way to lower manhattan. plus there is no parking lot at the Barclay Center. if there is no subway on thursday, no way in hell people will get to the game.
