Cano Discussing Extension, Seeking 10 year/$200 Million Deal

"Second baseman Robinson Cano — set to become a free agent after next season — is said to be seeking a 10-year contract for north of $200 million, which does not easily fit the Yankees’ budget."
    http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/yanke...uS0CYNHBrc5y6L

And Buster Olney seemed to suggest it's reasonable to expect he'll get one.

The Yankees expect that if Cano, who has averaged 29 homers and 101 RBI over his past four seasons, becomes a free agent, he will receive significant offers from several other teams, including the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Washington Nationals.

Cano's payoff is likely to be in line with the deals recently signed by Albert Pujols ($240 million for 10 years), Joey Votto ($225 million for 10 years) and Felix Hernandez, who recently signed a seven-year, $175 million contract extension with the Seattle Mariners to become the highest-paid pitcher in baseball history.

Maybe 6 years at 23-25 million annually but there is no way any team is giving him 10 years at 31 years old in October.

Not in the post steroid era..

This is pathetic. If he doesn't sign an extension, he will be a 31 YEAR OLD MIDDLE INFIELDER!!! Who in their right mind would sign him for more than 4-5 years???

He can always be extended a few more years and become a DH. But 10/200 is an ignorant request.

One of the best 2nd basemen in the game right now. He's 31 in October though so I can't see him getting a 10 yr. deal.
    Favourite Teams:

    Boston Red Sox: 42-29
Indianapolis Colts: Decent draft, no new wide receiver though.
Detroit Pistons: 8th pick in the draft
Ottawa Senators: Great season guys, let's get them next year

    Beautiful:

I agree. Whoever gives him 10 years needs their head examined!

Nobody, and I mean nobody, should ever get a 10 year contract.

Yankees really shot themselves in the foot with their contract negotiating, now every big FA they have is going to try to get PAID. Doubt he gets that tho.

Dodgers need a 2nd baseman and will gladly pay him that. Chump change.

I think the Mets realized they had to re-sign Wright at really any cost given their circumstances.

Saying that, his annual average salary comes to 17.25 million dollars (with the contract backloaded but its not a terrible hit)

I think the Yankees give Cano significantly more annual money at the expense of less years.

Yeah Cano is the better player and in the AL his offense will hold up better (not to mention 3rd basemen regress quicker than 2nd baseman) so obviously he is going to see more money in his deal but i still don't see any team going near 10 years.
