Keep, we can't replace our whole pen cheaper than $1MM
When he pitches, his wind up annoys me. I thought the idea was for a Mets make over. Lets move on to a pitcher that throws good in the beginning, middle and end of a season.
" You seek Yoda!
We have to be economical. A guy like Rauch costed us $3.5MM. Acosta will cost roughly $1MM, and he was our best reliever in the 2nd half. If we had money, I'd say dump, but we don't.
I rather they give a shot to Elvin Ramirez since he will be cheap, Acosta is just so bad during the first half's of years that to go through that again is just unacceptable.
Ramirez may suck and be nothing good, but I believe he can be a solid pen arm if he improves his command, but that may be a lot harder said than done.
Ramirez is a full "thrower" he will never have consistent command.
He walked 20 in 21 innings. That is terrible and unacceptable.
I think it was a fluke that Acosta was that bad in the 1st half, but there is a better chance of him being better than Elvin Ramirez that's for sure.
DUMP
Acosta is terrible.
I agree with Sick

Maybe he will maybe he wont, but nobody can say for sure either way, what he did in 21 innings is meaningless because of the sample size. Though Ramirez has never really had good walk rates, but doubt they will be that high going forward.
...and Acosta being bad in the first half is not a fluke, that has been his history.
5.63 ERA career in the first half
2.65 ERA career in the second half
Is almost a give that he will suck in the first half again in 2013.
BTW that career 1st half ERA is HEAVILY influenced by this season's 1st half.
2008 1st half: 47 IP, 4.02 ERA
2008 2nd half: 6 IP, 0.00 ERA
2009 1st half: 19 IP, 3.32 ERA
2009 2nd half: 18.1 IP, 5.40 ERA
2010 1st half: 12 IP, 3.00 ERA
2010 2nd half: 27.2 IP, 2.93 ERA
2011 1st half: 12 IP, 6.75 ERA
2011 2nd half: 35 IP, 2.31 ERA
So yeah, nothing outrageous so those career numbers are skewed from the large difference this year.
He has pissed me off so much. I want to dump but since we have no money we may have to keep...
Even if so the last 2 years 1st half he has been ****ing horrible period and why he has been sent down both times.
...and as for Ramirez, you know well that some guys eventually throw more strikes and it does not matter if they face minor leaguers or major leaguers. If he can get to around his minor league career BB%(which is still high), he can still be a solid pen arm. Acosta BB% have also never been that great and if you want evidence of how a guy started to throw more strikes to major leaguers as opposed to minor leaguers he is you example.
Acosta BB/9 rates
2001 - 5.1
2002 - 7.0
2003 - 4.9
2004 - 4.2
2005 - 3.2
2006 - 7.0
2007 - 5.3
Acosta and Ramirez have identical minor league BB rates and close to identical K rates as well. They are very similar pitchers when they were the same age, I rather take a chance with the younger guy than the guy that the last 2 years has been downright ****** and one of the worst pitchers in the first half of the season.
I backed Acosta the last 2 years, not anymore I had enough.
Also I think the Mets can take the 8 million that they will save from Rauch, Acosta, Byrdak and Ramirez and get themselves a couple of more reliable pen arms than those guys.
Guys like Affeldt and Adams are probably out of their range, but guys like Grilli and even an Ayala could be better options.
...and yes I hated the thought of getting Ayala last year, but I can't ignore what he has done the last couple of years, while playing in a tough division.
Also Randy Choate to be the 2nd lefty along with Edgin specially if you think Carson is not that guy or is not ready to be that guy.
This pen just needs to be completely overdone and guys like Acosta need to go.
I'd have zero problem saying "Adios!" to this guy.
