Delonte West Officially Waived. Should Lakers pick him up?

    It's official:

    http://espn.go.com/dallas/nba/story/...llas-mavericks

As a note, Mike Brown has coached West while they were both in Cleveland and had nothing but good things to say about him. He's considered a low risk-high reward player at this point. With our bench history, I think we should give him a shot. What do ya'll tjhink?

The question is more academic than usual.

Unless the Lakers cut someone on their own roster they've got no place to put him. And I'm not sure the potential rewards outweigh the known risks.

For the minimum? It's a no brainer.

Waive Darius Morris. Sign DWest to a one-year rental. See if it pans out.

Id rather have a serviceable nutcase who can play 2 positions than a useless scrub.

    DH12 | Hill | Sacre
    Pau | Jamison |
    Artest | EBanks | Clark
    Kobe | Meeks | West
    Nash | Blake | Duhon

He needs to clear waivers before we can bid on him, since we don't have cap space. But he would be a great backup to Nash. He plays Defense and can score on occasion. If he acts up dump him, Lakers take risks with emotionally unstable people (Artest, Rodman, Isiah Rider etc), which is the right thing to do.

There you go. So yeah, again, for the MINIMUM, it cant hurt the organization.

    Low risk | High reward

Why not sign Smush? Why not sign Colby Carl? Why not sign Arenas? WE ARE JUST FANS. Quit with the should we sign him? There is no "WE" none of you are on the team or front office. Give it a rest, for the love of David Stern.

I have to admit that your logic here is almost unassailable.

    Almost.

    Here's the counter-argument:

I'd rather have a useless scrub on my team than a chaotic player who factionalizes the team, undermines the coaches and goes off his meds at the worst possible time while continuing to insist that he's still taking his pills.

My guess is that the Lakers have a pretty thick file on every player in the league, and that before they would even consider pulling the trigger on acquiring him they'll be making a lot of off-the-record phone calls. There's nothing wrong with making the team better if that's guaranteed, but again West doesn't seem like he comes with any guarantees.
