This is just an update of last year's thread - a place to discuss power rankings and whatever other sorts of ratings and whatever the sites and networks do, so that we don't have 10 new threads about it each week. Enjoy.

A little bit of Sixers optimism in ESPN's latest 5 on 5:

1. Which player will take the biggest step forward this season?

Israel Gutierrez, ESPN.com: Evan Turner, Sixers. With last year's leader, Andre Iguodala, and last year's designated chucker, Lou Williams, both gone, either Turner or Jrue Holiday should rise and be this team's premier perimeter threat to complement Andrew Bynum. Given their career numbers and Holiday's nice playoff performance last spring, Turner has more room to climb, and he should make a third-year leap.


5. Which East playoff team will move to elite status?

Stein: If you read the first edition of ESPN.com's NBA Power Rankings, you'll know that I see the Sixers with the potential to make that sort of move, all because they traded for a franchise center while helping to rid the East of Howard in the same deal. Some 72 hours after the rankings published, Philly was announcing that Bynum would have to be rested for the first three weeks of his Sixers career as a precautionary measure after his latest knee surgery. Which would suggest that the ol' Power Rankings jinx is still a force that trumps my powers of prognostication.

^Hell yeah. And we're 7th in ESPN's first power rankings. I forget if that was posted in here or not, but it definitely turned some heads in the main forum.

Random stats:
Over the last 5 seasons we've allowed just 3 40-point games, tied with the Lakers for best in the league. Over 10 seasons we've allowed 14 while the Lakers have allowed 13, making us tied for second with the Raptors and Spurs.

Also the last time we gave up a 50 point game was Nov 16 1988 to MJ (he had 5 that season). Since that date (just under 24 full seasons), only us and the Spurs haven't given up a 50 point game, although there've been 147 in the league over that time.

None of it really means much, I just found it and thought it was interesting-ish.

Yup, for sure.

Also helps that almost 10% (12 of 147) of those 50 point games were for the Sixers, and therefore couldn't have been against the Sixers.
Plus the Lakers had 27 of them, and none against us - which might've been different if we played them more than twice a year.

2012 Preseason Rankings

1. Bholly- far and away the most knowledgeable sixer fan on psd. The man should literally be the GM of the sixers.

2. RickPrior- after years of churning out NBA superstars in his AAU coaching days, Coach P now spends his days crushing the competition with his vast superior basketball knowledge.

3. Sixerfan- pretty big downgrade from number 2, but he knows his sixers basketball and he's a die hard philly fan. That goes along way.

4. Sixerlover- seems to be quite knowledgeable about the NBA and his name is "sixer lover". In a weak class of psd sixer fans, that's all it takes.

5. Knowledge- probably deserves to be a little higher on this list, but his recent outbursts against Allen Iverson should keep him out of the top 4 for awhile.

6. Seoulbeatz- quite possibly the first Asian sixer fan in the history of the franchise. Makes pretty sweet highlight videos with sick azz beats.

7. WannabGM- might be higher on the list if every one of his posts weren't a page long. Does every post need to be 3-5 paragraphs?

8. MylesKong- Myles is a very unique poster. He prides himself on "thinking outside the box". While his posts generally lack common sense, there's no denying he's a die hard sixer fan.

9. Mandrew- Old Man Drew can still bring the heat when he wants to.

10. EvanTurner- not the brightest by any means, but he loves himself some sixers basketball. Gotta admire his blind love of everything sixers.
