Looks like there is at least still some chance Liriano signs with us. I think he would be a nice addition even more so now with Karstens in the fold.

I've been in favor of signing him since the beginning. It would be pretty funny if his arm injury allowed us to sign Karstens and him at a lower price. That's what I would call a good injury

I'm hoping they do still sign him. That would give us a pitching staff I would be ahppy starting the year with of:
SP: Burnett
SP: Rodriguez
SP: McDonald
SP: Liriano
SP: Locke
LR: Karstens (long relief; spot starter)
MR: Leroux/Wilson/NRI (I'm torn here. I like Leroux but want a second lefty (Wilson) but also wouldn't mind a Veras/Cruz type)
MR: Hughes (mid inning ground ball guy)
MR: Morris (mid inning strike out guy)
MR: Watson (#1 lefty)
SU: Melancon
CL: Grilli

It's funny you posted that rotation, that's essentially the same one I posted in the Liriano thread

I just found something out that I didn't know before. Gaby Sanchez has an option remaining so that is another potential opening. So if you assume Jones sticks around and Snider and Tabata make the team due to lack of options that leaves Sands and Sanchez battling for the RH part of the 1B platoon.

Even with Liriano and Karstens being brought into the fold I'm still hoping the Pirates pick up a good utility player for the bench and maybe a bullpen arm. I think those two moves would do a lot to help round the team into form.
