Phil Jackson Reportedly Wants to Add Scottie Pippen to His Staff in LA if He Returns

Semi-OT, obviously...but it looks like Pip may get that coaching gig he's sought out for quite a while.

Still no official word on whether or not PJax is returning to coach the Lakers, but the Daily News reports that if he does, he may be joined on the sideline by an old friend: “[Phil Jackson] interviewed with the team on Saturday. Although he was not offered the job, sources said, it’s his if he wants it. That’s because the Lakers are focused solely on hiring Jackson, the 11-time champion who led L.A. to five titles during his two tenures in Los Angeles. Jackson, 67, has expressed interest in taking over a team with four potential Hall of Famers, although he is said to be examining some of his usual concerns, including having say in personnel matters and whether he would have to make all of the Lakers’ road games. Jackson is looking at adding Scottie Pippen, his former Chicago Bulls star, to his staff, sources said. Bernie Bickerstaff is expected to coach the Lakers on Sunday against the Sacramento Kings. Bickerstaff became the interim coach after Mike Brown was fired on Friday with a 1-4 record.”

So Pippen would betray the Bulls organization after they have started to give him this stuff?

Don't think so at all. It's no secret Pippen wants a coaching job somewhere and since that's not currently an option here, I'm sure they're supportive of what he'll ultimately decide to do.

Pippen is basically like a mascot for the Bulls now, just a PR guy. He wants to coach, so he should get that opportunity to do so if he is offered a chance. The Bulls will be fine with it.

I'm hoping Bickerstaff gets to coach a bit more.

Good for Pip. Pretty sure the Bulls would have no issues with this at all.
