I don't know, I think he has a chance to work his way up the draft board if scouts decide he can handle third. I think if scouts decide he can't handle third, then he won't go in the top 5.

I think he has the potential to put up a .280-360-.550 slash line. Of course a lot can change between now and the draft. I normally don't do much draft speculating this soon anyway.

Right now, I would prefer Manaea as the Cubs pick at #2.

I hate "drafting by need", but this year, at this point, I think BPA is going to be a college pitcher, which just so happens to be a need. I'm for whomever the Cubs deem the best out of the group of Appel, Manaea, Stanek, Whitson......etc.

If we do go with pitching I hope that we sign Manaea but I hope not. I know we need piching really bad but just dont see picking these guys unless they are ( prior/stratsburg/clemons ) proven talent that will go above and beyond all other players. I think with Meadows/Frazier/ these guys will move quickly thru our system and could gives the opportunity to trade other valuable assets in our system, I would like cubbies to implement the Royals system where we draft positional players that are less injury-prone and draft high upside pitchers sprinkled in thru the draft. We do have the resources to pay for Major-league ready pitchers

I should have said with all of the good pitching available I would be shocked if the CUBS pass on one of the four available stud pitchers...with the lack of top level pitching in our system...I need to stop assuming everyone thinks alike and stop thinking everyone is a CUBS geek.

Appel and Gonsalves would be nice in 1 and 2.

Or maybe a confident in 3B Kris Bryant with Gonsalves in 2.

College bb season starts in 2 weeks on the 15th with games in the southern states. Fridays are typically the day when number 1 starters pitch so that's when we should probably have some weekly Manea, Stanek, Appel updates

High School baseball is probably not until mid or late March

Pretty sure I read Meadows plays Frazier on March 11th or 12th.

Weird that Appel got #1 considering he didn't video game number the Cod.

Really interesting Appel piece from the HardballTimes from before last year's draft:

I'll agree with the top three with a few tweaks the rest of the way. Just a few notes, Stanek isn't a top five talent in an average draft. I think by June you could potentially see him and Jonathon Crawford switch spots. If Austin Wilson puts it altogether this season he might even be in the discussion for number one. He's probably the most frustrating guy in the business to project. Karsten Whitson will be this draft's version of Kyle Gibson a few years back. The talent is clearly their, but injuries will play a role and he'll have the widest range of projected positioning in the draft.

I've yet to be impressed by Stanek. The breaking ball is probably legit but it's supposed to be fastball first muhfckas.
