At least he's good on defense. I'd rather have this guy than Nickeas even though that isn't saying much.

He is just another guy that catches, the Mets really have nothing in the upper minors that can be counted on to give them anything in the majors. The Rob Johnson's and Mike Nickeas of the worlds are are horrible even for back up standards. Thole and Shoppach are back ups at best themselves.

Wouldn't it have been worth their while to at least make a small run at Russell Martin?

Well folks here's another AAAA player.

Overwhelming signing, especially from the deep farm system of the Cubbies......

    Broncos Dieharder Since '73
Los Angeles Kings Dieharder Since '87 - Stanley Cup Champions 2011-2012.....

You think signing Recker means they won't make a run at Martin? Maybe they won't, but signing Recker has absolutely nothing to do with that. It's all about how much Martin will make. But believe me, the hunt for a C for next season isn't over.

I seriously think Alderson is done with the catchers. They won't sign Martin, he might actually want 2 million a year at least.

2013 Spring Training, wouldn't surprise me to see SA and Co. have a cast of 100's of invitee potential catchers.

Probable be a listing on Craig's List too.

With our catching seriously weak in talent as it is, I expect more of the same next year.

    Yawn.

And "ultimately," Alderson said, "we're judged on whether we win or lose."

As of now, Mike Nickeas is a better catcher.
The Mets have 2 catchers worse than Nickeas, how is that possible?
I guess you can never have enough weak hitting catchers.

Or as Casey said, otherwise you have a lot of passed balls.

    Oh, wait.

I disagree. Is Recker worse than the .174/.242/.229 line Nickeas put up in the 122 PA this year?

Recker is a better defender too. He has a stronger arm and has more raw power and strength.
