    Here's your answer:

And Corpas has elected free agency. Most memorable moment: Getting ejected during bench-clearing (almost) brawl against Nats in DC.

Hopefully Mather elects for FA as well.

Actually, although they have not yet accrued three years of MLB service time, Justin Germano, Joe Mather and Blake Parker all have the right to refuse an outright assignment and become a free agent because each has been outrighted previously in his career.

EDIT: They have eight days to declare free agency.

    AZ Phil:

The Cubs MLB Reserve List (AKA "40-man roster") technically presently has 33 players on it, but there are also three more players (Matt Garza, Ian Stewart, and Arodys Vizcaino) who are still on the 60-day DL and thus do not count against the 40-man roster limit. However, all three will need to be reinstated from the 60-day DL by the 5th day following the conclusion of the World Series.

Also, one more slot on the 40-man roster will be available once Shawn Camp becomes an Article XX-B MLB free-agent the day after the conclusion of the World Series.

If anyone wants McNutt, they can have him.

I'm not worried about anyone taking Villanueva. A 3b/2b guy who has never played above A-ball? That's tough to stash on your roster all year.

Watkins definitely needs to be protected.

We must protect Michael Brenly, he will take over the booth one day.

Michael Brenly couldn't take over a phone booth.

I could see a team taking Jay Jackson in the Rule 5. He could probably stick in a bullpen for some team.

Vandy pitching guru Derek Johnson is leaving to become Cubs minor league pitching coordinator.

    Phenomenal, I repeat: PHENOMENAL news.

I'd be worried about Houston stashing McNutt in the bullpen and eventually DLing him with Rule 5-itis. I still think he could become a really good back end reliever.

While I've been trying to explain to my fellow Cub fan that McNutt was the definition of prospect creep (boosting their tools and abilities due to strong performance in scouting reports) in 2010, giving him away would not be a good idea. The fact that he had some relevance as a prospect, and throws hard, is more incentive to keep him around than the majority of the pitchers in this system.

This is really good news. This guy is a great pitching coach. Coached up David Price. We should see the benefits of this hire in the future.
