As a calendar reminder, this Tuesday, November 20, is the deadline for filing reserve lists/setting 40-man roster for the Major League club and all Minor League levels in advance of the Rule 5 Draft. The 40-man roster is currently at 38.

I will edit this post to include a list of Cubs who are Rule 5 eligible.

Nice thing is the Cubs have some dead weight on their 40 man. Raley, Coleman and Rusin can akll be cut off that list, I feel, with relative ease. They can probably drop down to 35 quickly.

Also wouldn't be surprised to see a trade before Tuesday, as well.

I suppose we could also see something happen with Ian Stewart, too. The non-tender deadline, however, isn't until November 30, more than a week after the 40-man needs to be set for the Rule 5 Draft.

Regardless, we're going to see some roster activity between now and Tuesday. As we'll have the second pick in the Rule 5 Draft, too, we'll also have an idea as to who should be available around the league for when the Cubs are on the clock.

The end of November moves quick for me, too. I've already had one Thanksgiving dinner. May as well just rip a few pages off the calendar.

Pending any trades involving non-rostered players, at least the front office won't have to spend too much time racking their brains over who to protect.

I'm not quite sure what time the deadline is today for the 40-man to be set, but a few teams are starting to announce roster moves. At the latest we're looking at before 12:00am ET. Maybe as early as 5:00pm ET.

Last year it was 5 p.m. EST. Can't find it for sure for this year.

Washington Post says midnight Eastern, CSN Northeast says 5 p.m. Eastern.

#Cubs select contracts of 4 to add to 40-man roster: RHP Trey McNutt, IF Christian Villanueva, IF Logan Watkins & RHP Robert Whitenack

Bryan LaHair designated for assignment. #Cubs say they are pursuing opportunity for him in Japan.

Also, RHP Carlos Gutierrez cleared waivers & assigned to Minor Leagues. #Cubs

Didn't we just acquire Jake Brigham from the Rangers in the Soto deal?

Good for LaHair if he gets a pay raise over there, but I was expecting him to get traded in a package to an American League team.

I asked Bruce Miles about that and he said this was prearranged if Brigham got hurt.

Yes, but he got injured after the trade and was occupying a spot on the 40-man roster. Looks like the Cubs dealt him back to the Rangers to clear space for higher priorities.
