But it's not like all the fans are located in that 15 mile radius.. The Isles have their LI fans (and now BK), the Devils have their Jersey fans, and the Rangers have their city and up fans. With a few being out of place fans here and there. This doesn't really effect the other NY area franchises.

    http://espn.go.com/nhl/attendance/_/year/2012

Islanders were 29th out of 30 teams in attendance last year.

It's sad to say but they are far from their glory days of the early 80s.

It's a good idea to keep them on the east coast.

They have tradition here, and it's an important rivalry for hockey, the Rangers and the Islanders.

It's my favorite hockey rivalry (as a Ranger fan) aside from Rangers Devils, or Blackhawks Red Wings.

The Islanders belong in NY (too bad it won't still be on Long Island) but Long Islanders had the opportunity to vote in a new stadium twice and turned it down both times.

Didn't they have the Lighthouse project as well?

Or did that not get past preliminary stages?

Either way, it was coming out of LI residents pocket so yeah they should have a right to vote on it.

Bottom line: Islanders weren't wanted on Long Island, they are wanted in Brooklyn. Makes too much sense to move them there.

    Debatable.

    1. If thereferendum was openendupto all ofLong Island, it would ahve passed without a doubt.

    2. We have no eveidence to show that "Brooklyn wants the Islanders"

With that, Ill certainly take this over Quebec.

54 minutes fromSyosset with a trasnfer at Jamaica!

It's all about the new arena, if Long Island would have given the Islanders a new arena they would have stayed there.

I don't know how much difference in attendance there will be percentage wise because the team needs to improve first before more people come to see them.

So you believe that despite the fact that they're moving into the arena, they aren't even wanted in that said arena?

All taxes come out of LI residents pockets, people dont vote for taxes. This was gonan result in a 14-58 extra dollars a yearin property taxes, which is somewhere from 4 to 17 cents a day. THe revenue lost from losing Nassau coliseumwould leadto higher tax hikes than that. Its the lesser of 2 evils, and one solutionwould allow you to keepyour team

LIers are stupidand im glad they lost their team, the true fans will stick with them in brooklyn

Absolutely. But they clearly weren't wanted on LI so they didn't get a new arena. We had opportunity after opportunity to get a new building and each chance went down in flames. Clearly, Long Island was done with them.
