I like the idea of signing both Martin and Napoli we would have a sick catching tandem far better than any other in baseball.

Napoli can DH most of the time as well. So Martin will get his playing time, Napoli will get his ABs, and the veterans will get their occassional DH rest.

Napoli brought in to serve the Jesus Montero role?

YES sign me up for that. Would be a genius move and a sure fire offensive improvement / boost.

Napoli just seems like another all or nothing hitter. I'd pass.

He had 24 homeruns in 108 games.

Imagine his 162 totals? Not to mention 20 -- 30 homeruns every year since 2008 He's a career 260 hitter and he doesnt strike out all the time.

Napoli would be an amazing move. He would make up for the loss of Montero, serving that same role.

    SS Derek Jeter
    RF Ichiro Suzuki
    1B Mark Teixeira
    2B Robinson Cano
    3B Alex Rodriguez
    CF Curtis Granderson
    DH Mike Napoli
    C Russell Martin
    LF Brett Gardner

When Arod, Jeter, or Tex need DH days - Napoli can either slide over to 1B or to Catcher (and he is a better defender than Montero was so I don't want to hear about that) Napoli would be a very good fit for us.

    2012:

    Curtis Granderson: 195 K's in 596 ABs = 32% K

    Mike Napoli: 125 K's in 352 ABs = 35%

And if he produces like he did in 2011 we aren't even having this discussion.

I can't stand how baseball fans are so "what have you done for me lately" and only harp on the negativity.

Napoli's numbers 2 years ago are enough to bring him in here. His power from the catchers position is off the charts.

If he were a full time catcher that might be a more impressive statement.

The Yanks are trying to cut down on payroll, if we sign both we are looking at 20mil for everyday catching! Can't see it happening, if Napoli is healthy and up for catching everyday I would be happy to get him.

So we should sign him expecting him to perform like he did in 2011 and not like he did in 2012, even though he's another year older?
