UFC women's division "absolutely going to happen." - Dana White

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/201...da-rousey-ufc/

Ronda Rousey, the most dominant female fighter in MMA, could be its most historic, too.
UFC president Dana White tells SI.com he's working on a female division of the UFC, largely because of Rousey's influence.
"It's absolutely going to happen," White said Tuesday of the women's division.

The inclusion of women in the sport's highest ranks is an about-face for White, who had long rejected the idea of a women's division, deriding the quality of fighting and the depth of competition in the female ranks.
White attributes his reversal to Rousey, 25, who has beaten each of her nine opponents -- three amateur, six professional -- with a devastating armbar in the first round. Only one opponent, wrestling specialist Miesha Tate, endured longer than one minute in the cage with the Strikeforce bantamweight title holder and 2008 bronze medalist in judo.

White says no time frame is set for the new division. Rousey's transition to UFC, White says, "could happen tomorrow, it could happen a year from now."
Rousey's manager Darin Harvey says, "Nothing is immenient. She's a Strikeforce champion not a UFC fighter. We still have three fights left for Strikeforce."
Regardless of the time frame for the women's division, White says, "The point is I'm committed to this."
    Thoughts?

Ugh. If it takes up space on the main card, then that'll be horrible.

Yeah I better never see it on a main card that I pay for... Obviously my opinion could change in time but right now I want no part in it.

The problem is there is no women to compete against RR. Just put her in the FLW division and see what happens.

LOL Now that would be entertaining. Unfortunately, she probably gets finished by any lower-tier flyweight within the first round. So it'd be like a one time entertainment thing.

There is no way we would ever see a man vs a woman in the UFC. Imagine if Rousey or any female, takes a beating for 3 rounds? The press would be all over it and it wouldn't be in a positive way.

If ZUFFA brings the woman's division to the UFC, they're going to need more than just Rousey, Tate and possibly Cyborg. I say ZUFFA's best option would be to purchase Invicta and take it from there. Maybe even keep SF around and turn it into a women's league.

Just start with the one weight class, 135. Tate, Rousey, Kaufman, Cyborg, Coenen, Davis, Carmouche, McMann, etc.

There's enough women at that weight class to start a reasonable division/

This sucks. Because the only relevant women's fight is Cyborg vs. Rousey.

People might want to see that fight, but that's just one fight. Seriously is anyone going to care about watching the other women fight? like Sarah Kaufman vs. Liz Carmouche?

What if Cyborg never fights Ronda? Were going to watch her armbar another undersized woman.

    I disagree.

I'm more interested in that than a lot of fights we already see in the UFC.

How are all her opponents undersized? She's fighting at the same weight as them. If we think Rousey is too big for the weight, we can look at plenty of guys in almost every UFC division and claim they're too big for the weight, despite making that weight.

That is the only way it will work. You start off with a single weight class and maybe do a women's TUF as well to build initial interest.

But right now I'm looking at this like adding the 125-pound division it is only gonna water down cards with divisions that have a dozen fighters and little interest from the fans.

I can see the UFC looking at it and saying hey here is another way for us to promote a championship fight for some of these cards.

I was telling a friend that as well. Maybe if more people see it (and more money comes into play) in the UFC then more women will go out and get involved in the sport.
