As we learned with Steve Smith, there's just no way he'll get it before the end of the season and given that they can tender him for another year at $2.3 mil, I don't think he's seeing a deal for another year.

Victor Cruz also said on @WFAN660 that he wants a new contract -- soon. "We would like to get it done before ...
... the season's (over)," Cruz said. "We don’t want to drag it along, and (have it) become something that blocks the team in the offseason, and is something that’s in the media every day. We don’t want it to get like that. We want to just knock it out halfway through the season, or during the season at the very least, and put it behind (us)."
Cruz is due $540,000 this year and will be a restricted free agent in March, when he'd likely get a first-round tender of about $2.7 million.

We are going to have to pay this guy eventually.
No saving the money for other players. He is our second most important player.
Eli, Cruz, and JPP are essential.
I love Nicks, but his injuries have hurt his value. We need to somehow retain him at a discount...or let him walk if it means keeping Cruz.

NO, If we lose Nicks, there goes the double team we have with not only the best WR duo in the NFL, but there goes Victor Cruz with double coverage....hello Triple coverage..... Nicks is our 4th most important player and letting him walk will be the worst decision to ever do and I'm confident Reese will find a way to pay Nicks, Cruz, and JPP, and if it comes down to let an injury prone impact player go, I'd rather let Kenny Phillips walk.... Steve Smith was my favorite player when he was back with the Giants and I've used to have the nickname of "PSD's Steve Smith" but his signing with Philly gave me a heartbreak....Cruz fixed it up and I'm not looking forward to another heartbreak....sign his *** A.S.A.P. Reese

Bottom line here: The Giants know they have Eli in the prime of his career. The Super Bowl window usually doesn't stay open for long, but we have a shot to win even more. As long as Eli Manning is around, I'm sure we'll find ways to keep Cruz and Nicks.

Quite a few voting for pay him now. Gotta reference Steve Smith again. Last thing you want is to give Cruz big money now and then have him bust a knee and never be the same again.
Not for nothing, but it works in Cruz's best interest. Giants might break the bank if he's healthy after the season with high production. Right now they might be a little tighter.
Ultimately I can absolutely see this being a tough deal to get done with lots of other teams willing to pay more than the Giants can afford. They gotta find a way, but we all said that about Smith too......you just never know with this front office. They might let it roll with Nicks, Barden, Hixon and Randle.
