Angels just traded Morales to the mariners for Vargas.

Man I remember when there was the big is Vargas a bad pitcher or not debate here in the mid season trade thread lol

But I feel like the angels could have done much better honestly. I don't think morales is a future all star but I think he a pretty good quality bat. Probably good for a solid OBP and 25 home runs

Vargas is kinda like the Wii while other pitchers are like 360/PS3. There's nothing wrong with the wii (Vargas) but he comes up short in other areas that the 360/ps3 are better. Very underwhelming compared to what they probably could have gotten

Ive always liked Morales.. Put up good numbers until destroying his ankle..
It answers the question of trading Bourjos or Trumbo.. Agree they should have gotten more..

On Espn insider, Bowden wrote about 5 moves that have yet to occur during this off-season but should. One of them was: Carlos Gonzalez for Shelby Miller, Jon Jay, and Trevor Rosenthal. I realize we would be giving up a lot of talent, but to get CarGo who is still young (27) and is signed long term would be amazing. He has also played 200 games in CF, so he could replace Jay for a few more seasons. I think the Rockies would also accept Carlos Martinez and Matt Adams instead of Shelby in the deal.

This is one of the reason why Jim Bowden is now an employee of ESPN instead of a major league team..

I would be totally shocked if Cards traded one the top end pitching prospects and didnt get a SS back in the deal..

Its one of the teams biggest long term needs and weaknesses. Strauss was tweeting about something being in the works.. But didnt say anymore... Typical Strauss trying to stir things up in a slow news cycle for Cards.. So far Mo has not rushed into any kind of deal.. I dont see him breaking that trend..

I'd keep Miller, rosenthal and Jay before trading them for a guy like Gonzalez. We don't need him.

He would obviously add good offense to the team but we have a ton of offense. I'm not big on trading from our biggest strength (pitching depth) to add to our other big strength (offense)

If we are going to trade that kind of talent it needs to be for a SS of the future that we control at least 6 years

No way I would do that deal. Cargo's value is inflated due to the fact he plays in Colorado. Look at his away splits. 252 at bats (as opposed to 266 at home) and he has a .706 OPS. Not worth trading away a pitcher like Miller + extras for him imo.

I would only ship for a SS like others have said.

That trade doesn't make nearly enough sense for the Cardinals.


Bowden looks at the lineup only, (adding Cargo power) and takes zero time to look at team needs. He is worthless at this.

Giancarlo Stanton would make a **** load more sense than Cargo if we were to give up those kind of prospects
