Matheny and Mo said today that Matt Carpenter is to work pretty much this whole off season on learning second base. Today they also announced that there will be no place for Schumaker at 2B next season. This leads me to believe a few situations will happen.

    1. Kolten Wong will be ready. He will become the starting secondman. Carpenter will continue current role as a LF/RF/1B/3B/2B leaving few at bats for Schumaker

    2. Kolten Wong will not be ready. He will need time at AAA. Matt Carpenter will be starting at 2B a majority of the time. Skip will then become a 4th outfielder again. He will get starts in LF/RF/CF and become the teams number 1 pinch hitter.

    3. Kolten Wong is ready. He becomes the starting 2B. Matt carpenter stays in current role plus time at 2B. Skip is traded to another team for a low level prospect, cardinals replace him with right handed hitting bench bat.

A few things to keep in mind:

We are losing a team leader with Berkman this offseason. Can we lose another by losing skip?

Kolten Wong is hitting .385 in 39 at bats in the Arizona fall league. He's taken no walks and struck out 5 times. 1 double. 1 home run.

We have a very left handed bench. We need to add a solid righty somewhere.

    I know it sucks.

    Our bench last season:

    Skip L
    Carpenter L
    Robinson R
    Descalso L
Cruz R (only used in certain situations)

But at the same time we could replace Robinson with another right handed outfielder/pinch hitter. I'm completely unimpressed by Robinson to be honest. Skip could become the 4th outfielder and with Beltran in RF he would get playing time. If carpenter is starting at. 2B his bench spot needs replaced. Descalso becomes back up SS.

So we could add a righty bat and keep skip. Really depends on how Carpenter can do and if Wong is ready.

California I think. It's crazy expensive out there

Hard to feel bad for a guy who made close to 350,000 this year though lol

It's its been anywhere from like 2.80 to over 4 here this last year.

I'd say on average like 3.30

I'm disappointed we didn't get to the World Series, but I can't complain too much. At least I'm not a Cubs or Pirates fan (because the Cubs have gone so long without winning it all and the Pirates are consistently bad).

A while back my Mom said "You know if we lived a few hundred miles north we would be Cubs fans." She said it like she was relieved. I'm relieved, too.

its 4.20 down the street here. It's been brutal here in california. It was up to about 4.50 a few weeks ago. We had some power outages at one of the exxon plants, supposedly that is what is to blame for the gas price surge. It's gone down pretty fast though.

I'd hate to miss skip. I think we could have used him in this post season. He is a clutch hitter who has productive at bats. I like the idea of having Matt Carpenter play second. If he can play it effectively. IT would be nice to have his bat in the lineup more.

My predictions for next year's roster:

    C: Molina
    1st : Craig
    2nd : Matt Carpenter
    SS : Furcal/Descalso (depends on Furcal's arm)
    3rd : Freese
    Lf: Holliday
    Cf: Bourn
    Rf: Beltran

Bench : Descalso, Schumaker, Scott Hairston, Adams, Cruz

Rotation : Waino, Carpenter, Shields, Lynn, Miller

Bullpen : Rosenthal, Kelly, Mujica, Boggs, Motte, Burnett, Ryan Madson

    Signings : Bourn (5 yrs/ 75 mill), Hairston (1 yr/ 2 mil), Burnett (2/7mil), Madson (1/3 mil)

Trades : Jay and Cleto for Shields
Westbrook and Garcia to Rockies for mid-tier prospects
