Unfortunately the NHL can't get their act together, so there won't be any hockey just yet.
Gonna be a long winter.

it's too early for this thread, it feels like the season just started
It may be too early, but we are in the offseason already. I don't even want to watch the world series after this meltdown.
Matt Carpenter
.300 AVG, 1 HR, 6 RBI, .431 OBP, .375 SLG, .806 OPS, .371 wOBA, 136 wRC+, .4 fWAR, 126 OPS+
I guess I'll do a little work in here because I'm sad and want something to do. Next seasons roster(most likely) main position next to name. Secondary position in (). *means starter
Infielders:
1. Allen Craig* 1B (LF/RF)
2. Daniel Descalso 2B (SS/3B/1B)
3. David Freese* 3B( 1B)
4. Matt Carpenter (1B/2B/3B/LF/RF)
5. Skip Schumacker 2B (RF/CF/LF)
Catchers:
6. Yadier Molina
7. Tony Cruz
Outfielders:
8. Matt Holliday* LF
9. Jon Jay* CF
10. Carlos Beltran* RF
Starting Pitchers

20. Mark Rzepchynski
21. Fernando Salas
Obviously we are 4 players short. That's what needs to be decided and figured out.
Jaime Garcia may need surgery. Furcal may need surgery. Shelby Miller should in the rotation next year.
I think Fernando Salas is in danger of losing his spot next year. The guys who could be in the pen plus the fact we have 6 possible guys in the rotation and one could end up in the pen. Only thing salas has going for him is he can pitch a couple of mop up innings but that's not a necessity.
Guys who could take the last 4 spots
1. Kolten Wong 2B. If he makes it he's are new starting 2B.
2. A free agent, right handed centerfielder with Power. This a necessity IMO. We have a very left handed bench.
3. Jaime Garcia. All depends on health
4. Rafael furcal. All on health
5. Pete Kozma. Possible. But I don't think anyone has been to impressed after the hot start and what he is doing now.
6. Ryan Jackson. Best defensive player in the system. SS/2B
7. Shelby Miller, top prospect. He's ready. Him being on playoff roster shows pretty clear they think he is to.
8. Oscar Tavares. Least likely IMO. But if he comes to spring training and his .500, what can we do?
Guy I'd love to sign as a right handed bat who can play the outfield
Reed Johnson, not much power but great pinch hitter and solid player

I think we also need a LOOGY like Jeremy Affeldt or Sean Burnett. And if we could sign Freddy Sanchez for cheap since he is coming off surgery for 2nd base or bench help.

yeah i'd love to give Wong a shot at opening day 2B. Let descalso play SS with furcal
Wow..what a bad way to end a season. Can't believe neither of the games were close. Should've beat CY Zito in game 5. My off season wish list ....Wong at 2nd...need a shortstop.....put Taveras in center. Trade Jay and go get a shortstop. Like jay defensively but he's the quietest .300 hitter of all time. Let some young pitchers start or in bigger roles out of pen. And go get a lefty for the pen.
Well I might as well get started, this is arguably my favorite time of the year....the off-season
But this will be a quiet off-season for us.
What I think our 2013 OD roster will look like
C - Y. Molina
C - T. Cruz
AAA replacement
C - B. Anderson
1B - Allen Craig
AAA replacement
1B - Matt Adams
2B - Matt Carpenter
They are forcing Carpenter to focus on second all off-season, it is his position to have next season
2B - Daniel Descalso and Skip Schumaker backing up
AAA replacement
2B - Kolton Wong
SS - R. Furcal if healthy. If not, you will see a guy signed like a Stephen Drew, Jason Bartlett like depth player
Descalso and Kozma will both get time at short, but it's still Furcal's position. If the team doesn't think he will be healthy on OD then there will be a low level signing for a guy like Drew or Bartlett or someone of that caliber for not that much money
AAA replacement
SS - Greg Garcia
And I would argue that you almost just give him the job. I think he can handle it.
3B - David Freese
Allen Craig, Matt Carpenter, and Daniel Descalso are the immediate backups
AAA replacement
3B - Jermaine Curtis and Garrett Whittels
LF - Matt Holliday
backups of Skip Schumaker, Allen Craig, Matt Carpenter
AAA replacement
CF - Oscar Taveras, if there is an injury in our outfield, and Matt Carpenter can play second base, it will be Taveras who gets called up
CF - Jon Jay
back ups are Skip Schumaker, Shane Robinson, Adron Chambers
AAA replacement
CF - Oscar Taveras
RF - Carlos Beltran
Backs up are the same for leftfield
AAA replacement
CF - Oscar Taveras
Rotation as I believe it will line up (assuming guys will be healthy)
SP - Adam Wainwright
SP - Chris Carpenter
SP - Shelby Miller
SP - Lance Lynn
SP - Jake Westbrook
In case of injury, next two guys to get starts
SP - Joe Kelly
SP - Trevor Rosenthall (look for him to make the rotation by 2014)
Bullpen
Edward Mujica
Scrabble
Mitchell Boggs
Rosenthall
Kelly
Cleto/Marte
Freeman/Browning
Salas/Sanchez
CP - Jason Motte
AAA replacement - Jordan Swaggerty
(we know Jaime will not be ready for Opening Day, correct?)
I believe Berkman, Lohse, and McClellan are the only guys leaving from the current 40 man roster
After 2013, there will be some turnover though, Beltran, Wainwright, Carpenter, Westbrook and more could all be leaving.
The acquisitions I see are simple
Left handed reliever, simple 3 million dollar guy
Shortstop for depth, another simple 3 million dollar guy
There could be a trade involving Matt Adams this off-season. Don't be too shocked if you see something.
I personally would love to see if we could land either Ian Kinsler or Elvis Andrus in some way or another.
Give up Matt Adams and then some solid pitching talent for either player. But that might be a pipe dream.
Who would I sign? I would give Affeldt a 2/12 deal if he would come to St. Louis.
And I would see if Stephen Drew would take a 1/6 deal to come help us out and play short and some second when we need him to.
But both are nothing more than just depth for us.
It's going to be a very quiet off-season friends.
Taveras, Wong, and Garcia are only getting a call up if there is a significant injury. like Holliday, Jay, or Beltran out 6 weeks+
And Wong and Garcia basically won't get a fair shot, not until later in the season.

Matt Carpenter will be playing second base for us next season guys. There is almost no way he isn't given every opportunity to be the starter there next season.
Shelby Miller will be in the OD rotation barring either injury or a huge regression. He will be there.
Wong, Garcia, and Taveras will likely be together in Memphis on OD next season. Moz wants to keep them together as long as he can (along with Carlos Martinez). Expect them all up in 2014 though.
I heard they may look to put Kinsler in the RF, move elvis to 2B, and open SS for Profar
couldn't tell you where i heard that tho. maybe i had a dream or something lol
Kinsler loses a ton of offensive value in RF, i can tell you that.
