Real Super Awesome Ace to meet with Dr. Andrews on elbow.

    Oh boy:
New York Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia will visit with Dr. James Andrews soon to have his left elbow examined, general manager Brian Cashman confirmed Saturday.

"We are going to have his elbow checked out," Cashman said.

Sabathia has had a bone spur in his elbow since his days with the Cleveland Indians, a source said, and likely just needs the spur cleaned out.

Sabathia had his elbow checked in August after he experienced stiffness and was placed on the disabled list. All of his ligaments were fine then, the source said, so the expectation is this is not a serious issue.

However, Sabathia told reporters outside Yankee Stadium on Saturday that he's "a little bit" concerned.

"Yeah, you have to be concerned, because like I've said, I've never had any problems with the elbow before," Sabathia said, according to the New York Daily News. "We have to wait and see. ... It's something that I've not felt before, never had, so it's best to go get it checked out and go from there."

Sabathia, 32, went 15-6 with a 3.38 ERA for the Yankees this season. In three postseason starts, he was 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA.

Sabathia was tagged for six runs on 11 hits in just 3 2/3 innings in New York's elimination loss to the Detroit Tigers in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series. During that game, his velocity was down and he struggled with location.

Sabathia signed a seven-year, $161 million contract with the Yankees prior to the 2009 season.

    I hope it's nothing serious.

Hopefully everything checks out fine. He has a few months for things to heal regardless.

Heard on the news this morning that he's had bone spurs in his elbow from his time in Cleveland. I hope it's nothing more than just cleaning up the elbow.

CC also said it was nothing he's never felt this before.

Petite and Kuroda's agents are calculating their increases.

Explaining some of CC Sabathia’s elbow soreness, without creating concern about a long-term problem, the Yankees expected their ace to have a bone spur removed by Dr. James Andrews in the coming days.

General manager Brian Cashman confirmed that Sabathia will visit Dr. Andrews, but would not comment on the bone spur. A Yankees official, however, confirmed that the team believes Sabathia has a bone spur that will be removed. That could explain the elbow soreness that led to a brief stint on the disabled list this season.

That said, a bone spur is relatively good news. It’s a fairly common injury, easily fixed, and comes without the long-term concerns of ligament damage.

Velocity down significantly. Discomfort not consistent with past bone spurs. Sounds very similar to some of the issues Joba was dealing with prior to his TJ surgery.
