Why are we talking about pitching, we're fine with that. What hurt us in the playoffs was our offense...
I tend to agree that we are in no position to sign Cano to a 10 or 8 year deal for $22 to $25 per yr. But, if we lose him, our chances of winning in the short-term are unlikely and we should probably blow up our entire roster.
1. Cano to Marlins for a package led by Giancarlo Stanton.
2. Sabbathia to Texas for a package of young players headlined by Profar so
we finally get a young shortstop for the future.
3. Granderson and Hughes in a 3 team deal to bring us Justin Upton.
4. Mark Teixeira to Washington for a package of young MLB ready players.
5. Swisher leaves via FA and we take a pick. Save the cash to be applied
6. Soriano leaves via FA and we take a pick. Save the cash to be applied
7 A-Rod is moved with significant salary relief for a bag of balls.
FYI - I realize that no of the above will happen. But, it would be interesting to rid ourselves of all of our long-term salary commitments ala the Boston Red Sox.
Theres no way i come close to giving anyone a 10 year deal.. I like the idea of trading him arod and granderson..
Even up for Daniel Murphy?
"Mr. Martin Tanner, Baritone, of Dayton, Ohio made his Town Hall debut last night. He came well prepared, but unfortunately his presentation was not up to contemporary professional standards. His voice lacks the range of tonal color necessary to make it consistently interesting. Full time consideration of another endeavor might be in order."
only 10 years ago when PED's ruled the show, star players stayed stars until 40 years of age... prior to and since the end of the PED era, most players start looking old at 35. I would not give anybody big money for years past age 35. There will always be exception (Derek), but much safer to give 1 and 2 year deals for those guys after then.
I would put him on the block, and only trade him if the right deal is there. The Yanks will make a big enough offer that even if he walks, the Yanks will get decent draft picks. If they trade him, the target team can't get that same level.
Why not trade him and then try to resign him in 2014? Clever eh?
And he is going to get it too! smh.
