As with everything, there are 2 sides of every coin.
on one side, you re-negotiate the deal and could get a better team friendly deal... on the other side, the player is bargaining from a position of strength and usually gets a deal that the team regrets later.
As with anything, nothing is a one size fits all deal. In this case, the Yanks had a dealin place until 2014 and had no plans to have Robbie or anyone else try to make those years worth more (Boras' favorite thing to do)
I mean we don't see a-rod coming to brian saying that he would like to renegotiate his contract because it is not comiserate to how he is playing... I wonder why that is.
I tend to agree with NYY stance on this. For every 1 downside, there are 5 (7-10 if the agent is Scott Boras) upsides to the yankee policy. In robbies case, SB would have wanted to throw out the 2012 & 2013 options and have robbie paid at a higher rate and have the extention from there... which would have cost the Yanks more in both of those years... quite a bit more...

Leo's Thought Of The Day
A-Rod and Cano for Jose Reyes and some Cuban Coffee.....
Cano can suck my balls.
If only he didn't choke in the post season...he may have gotten his Jason Werth contract. Oh well.
He's too preoccupied with you JD.
