Thanks for the support and I agree that we should be talking Os. See what happens when NOTHING HAPPENINGS in the off season. I really don't think Morse would have been a good solution at 1B. He can hit with power but has obvious holes in his swing that AL East pitching would have eaten up. Wish we kept Mark R. I really throught he turned the corner at 1B when Manny came up. Parker isn't even on the same planet as Gausman right now. Gausman's done well in the minors where Parker came in high on lists but couldn't do it on the field. Honestly, the As don't miss on young pitching often so they knew what they were giving up. As for Morse, I was interested in him until I looked up his numbers. He's not young and save one season 15- 20 HRs isn't really power either, especially out of 1B. Think I'd rather have Davis at first. My question is this-
Dan D said he is still looking to add a SP and a middle of the line up bat. Who do you guys think? Also, chime in on whether the fans are pleased with where we stand at 2B. Cause I still see us up grading there some how.
I think I could see Marcum, Saunders and Lindstrom in the orange and black. I'd also like to see us take a flier on Juir. I saw on mlbtraderumor.com that the Os are considering Kubel (30yrs old). No way is he worth the collection of top prospects the Backs want. I saw he really has had 2 good power seasons 28 and 30 HRs and in one season he hit .300. All the other times, he's not an upgrade to what we have and is down right bad in the OF. So my question is for anyone who has watched him either with the twins or DBs. Does his swing fit well with Camden Yard like Davis did. Because, I think I'd rather take a shot at Smoak and maybe a prospect for Reinold than have to give up the farm for Kubel. I also see us moving Johnson or Hardy for a major league ready infielder like Seager, or one of the Rockies 10 guys. What about the idea the Indian fan suggested Avisail Garcia and Porcello for Johnson? Or Johnson and Hardy for Nick Castellanos, Porcello and Avisail Garcia? I think we'd go for that and it fits both our teams needs well. Nick goes to 3b, Manny to SS, 2b (would still be a problem maybe its time for Schoop to show us something this spring) move Rienold for Smoak-1B (heard he's great defensively). Another question for the Indians fan- Are the Cleveland still interested in moving Cabrera? Because as long as it wouldn't take Bundy or Manny- I think he would fit well with us and is worth a good package young pitching (Hunter, Arrieta, Mike Gonz or even Hammel) and prospects like Schoop, Gausman, Avery. Obviously not all of these guys but I'm sure it would be a good package to continue to build on. If we got Cabrera we could move either he or Hardy to second. Of course, other teams need SS and could offer a lot too. Cards, Ms to name a few.
Could the price be getting lower on Bourne? May he be the guy the Os need? I really would like to add to the top of the lineup and match some team power with some speed. He would also give us the best defensive of in the game except for the Angels
It might. I dont particularly want Bourne on a long term deal as he is a speed guy and we know how quickly that can go down hill (Roberts). So i'd perfer to stay away from a long term deal. That being said, if we could get him on a 1 year deal or something for him to prove his worth again for next year I;d be all for that. Only down side is hopefully AJ wouldnt be pissed about moving to left for a year.
Problem is we would have to give up a draft pick to sign Bourne. Albeit, if we got him on a 1 year deal, we could extend a qualifying offer and we could almost surely do this unless he had a terrible year or got hurt.
The Braves were talking about moving Bourne to LF if they resigned him even after signing Upton, so I don't know who would switch positions in that case. I think Jones would move to LF for 1 year if DD said he would sign him, but that's just my speculation. This is Adam Jones' team.
I think he's worth giving up a pick if he's low priced. At this point, any of the top 3 SP on the FA list would be good too. How does it work if you sign more than one of these guys like -Bourne, Lee, Marcum, Loshe, Saunders, Wilson, Farmsworth? You can't give up the same pick twice right? We could still add to this team.
oh yea, if we wanted to go out and sign Bourne and Lohse and whover else is tied to compensation, all they would do is continue subtracting from our draft. We would lose our 1st rounder, then 2nd rounder, then third rounder depending on how many we signed.
All the teams losing those player would get a sandwich pick between the first and second rounds.
This is different now than in the past. For example, in 2008, Tex, CC and Burnett were all Type A free agents.
Back then, the team losing the player took your draft spot. The team losing the best player (I don;t know how they determined that) for the best pick.
The Brewers got a first round pick for Sabathia
The Angels got a second round pick for Tex
The Blue Jays got screwed and got an third rounder for Burnett.
If we can get Bourne on a 1 or 2 year deal, I'm all for it as long as it doesn't upset the balance we have here. Obviously, Bourne is a better CF than Jones, but I wouldn't mind slotting him in LF
Man!!! That sucks and you still have to pay them big contracts. The only argument to that is, "Who did those teams sign with those picks?" MLB Draft Picks are a crap shoot and we could get draft picks from losing players too. I need to figure out how this all works if I'm going to pretend to be Dan Duquette. Bourne still makes sense especially since we can sign him to a shorter contract now.
Interesting.. I'm going to be pissed if we trade any of Tillman, Britton, Schoop, Miguel Gonzalez, Matusz or Steve Johnson for him.
I'd be ok with Arrieta, Avery, and some of our lower specs outside of the top 5.
Orioles Pursuing Jason Kubel
By Ben Nicholson-Smith [January 23 at 10:17am CST]
The Orioles are pursuing a trade for Diamondbacks outfielder Jason Kubel, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports (on Twitter). However, talks are not at an advanced stage. The Diamondbacks were looking to obtain young pitching from the Orioles for Kubel earlier in the month.
If the Orioles were to acquire Kubel, he'd be in the running for playing time at left field and DH along with Nate McLouth, Nolan Reimold and Wilson Betemit. Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks would no longer have surplus outfielders if they send Kubel to Baltimore.
The Diamondbacks continue to weigh offers for Kubel and Justin Upton, ESPN.com's Buster Olney reported yesterday. The Diamondbacks want to deal one of the outfielders sooner rather than later and they feel as though there’s a good chance of getting “suitable value” for Kubel if they decide to deal him, Olney reported. Rival executives view the Orioles as a possible match for Kubel.
Rosenthal notes that the Orioles also like Tigers starter Rick Porcello. However, the Tigers don't appear to be in a rush to trade the right-hander Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com reported yesterday. The Diamondbacks are also among the teams that have been linked to Porcello this winter.
D'Backs Notes: Upton, Kubel, Braves, Orioles
By Zach Links [January 23 at 2:32pm CST]
Here's a look at the latest on the Diamondbacks courtesy of ESPN.com's Buster Olney with all links going to Twitter..
The Diamondbacks want to make a decision on trading Jason Kubel or Justin Upton by Friday, people involved in the process tell Olney. Arizona had an agreement with the Mariners on an Upton deal earlier this offseason but the 25-year-old used his limited veto power to shoot the trade down.
Meanwhile, Arizona's talks with the Braves on Upton have resumed (Twitter link). Atlanta is said to be aggressive about acquiring Upton and they're likely the frontrunner for the outfielder if he is dealt. The D'Backs have been reviewing the Braves' offer and some folks involved believe that it's a strong proposal, according to Olney. The asking price for Kubel is dropping and Baltimore would be a logical landing spot for him, Olney tweets. Earlier today it was reported that the O's are pursuing Kubel but talks are not yet at an advanced stage.
Please NO KUBEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I do not want him. He can not play defensive at all (1B especially) He is a poor outfielder. He's old. His stats are inconsistent. I do not know why we did not re-sign Reynolds. He is younger. He has more power and he can play 1B really well. He would not have cost us a thing as far as pitching or prospect. Kubel is going to cost us young talent and money. So he's a DH, don't we have Chris Davis already. Before you guys say it, Davis is not a proven 1B and I'd rather go find another better defensive 1B. Is he better than what we have or had? Lets compare Davis, Reynolds and Kubel:
Really starting to look like we wont sign any bats at all this offseason. We really gotta hope that a healthy Roberts and Reimold as well as a full year of Manny and Nate can overcome some of the offensive short comings from last year....
