As the title states, Jay Bruce has won his 1st career Silver Slugger Award. Hopefully he has many more to come.

props to Bee for the sig!!
Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce !!
Dare I ask this question? Yes I will, even though it is negative.
Jay Bruce, Andrew McCutchen, and Ryan Braun won 2012 Silver Sluggers Awards for NL Outfielders. Do you think Jay Bruce deserved that award more than somebody else like Matt Holiday, Hunter Pence, Alfonso Soriano, or Carlos Beltran? Basically they gave the award to the top 3 uninjured NL Outfielders with the highest Slugging Pct. If you were an unbiased voter would you give Jay Bruce a 2012 Silver Slugger award?
I'm glad that he won, but I don't think Jay Bruce would be in my top 3 votes.

Guess I don't know excactly what the Silver Slugger award is all about. When I first heard Bruce won it, my first thoughts was hmmmmm he only batted .250.... He would be in my top three if it was just Reds players ! lol

I guess a you can put a positive spin on this by simply asking whether Slugging Pct should be the deciding factor in the Silver Slugger Award?
I've never put a lot of value in Slugging Pct, so my answer would be no. I'm not saying Bruce shouldn't be a Silver Slugger candidate, just that maybe somebody else was a little more deserving. I wouldn't mind if OPS were factored into the decision. In that case Braun, McCutchen, and Gonzalez would have won NL Silver Slugger awards.
At any rate, Bruce won the award and its not like he wasn't deserving. Statistically he had his best season to date. So I'm glad he won.
