Three team trade:
Arizona Get: Chase Headley, Eduardo Nunez, & Adam Warren
Padres Get: Chris Johnson, Phil Hughes, & a pitching prospect from Dbacks
Yankees: Justin Upton and mid tier prospects from both Dbacks and Padres.
I seriously and strenuously argued for Papi and Willingham last season.
I think they have to get proactive about dumping Cano. His work ethic, demeanor and end result performance are horrid, lazy, and sloppy. He was a HUGE part of this offensive meltdown. At worst, I'd do the sign and trade but make no mistake, the Yankees need to head this off sooner rather than later.
Resign
Kuroda
Ibanez
Martin
Granderson
Dump
Cano
Swisher
Freddy
Jones
Chavez
Lowe
Any Questions?

sign Ortiz
sign Hunter to replace Swisher
trade Granderson for prospects
sign Martin to team friendly deal or sign Mccan(if option not picked up)
trade prospects to get another ace to go behind Sabathia
i think this is realistic to what could happen this offseason
New York Yankees Off Season wishlist
Acquire a SP to go behind Tanaka & Pineda ( )
Upgrade 2nd base ()
Unload some contracts ( )
Don't trade Severino,Bird,Judge ( )
I want David Ortiz here for sure.
He is as Oactober clutch as they get.

If Ibanez could last at 40 years old while playing many games in Left Field, I'm sure Ortiz can last at 36 playing most of his games strictly as the DH.
Granted, Ibanez is in great shape for someone his age, but David Ortiz was putting up an OPS north of 1.026 This season with a .416 OBP
Having...
SS Derek Jeter (R)
RF Ichiro Suzuki (L)
2B Robinson Cano (L)
1B Mark Teixeira (S)
DH David Ortiz (L)
3B Alex Rodriguez (R)
CF Curtis Granderson (L)
All in one lineup looks pretty lethal to me. Ortiz would do so well in YS and would only be a 1-2 yr investment.

The Yankees had a cold postseason. That is all. This offense is not bad and does not need to be gutted completely. I would like to see them bring in young alternative, sure. But we can't lose Arod, Swisher, AND Granderson. Thats too much power when you think about it carefully. Lose Swisher, live with Arod and Granderson for one more year.
Firing Kevin Long will do this team a lot of good.
Keep in mid that it's like 4:30 AM right now, so this is going to be pretty awful, and this involves a TON of trades but here we go...
Pick up options on Grandy and Cano
Let Swish walk (qualifying offer)
Let Sourpuss walk (qualifying offer)
Let Ichiro walk
Let Ibanez walk
Re-sign Martin to a team-friendly deal
Bring Kuroda back (1/$18M or something, only one year)
Bring Pettitte back (one year)
Bring Mo back (one year)
Bring back Freddy (minor league deal, can't believe I'm saying this)
Trade A-Rod to Miami for Heath Bell and some filler prospects/bench players. Ideally, it would be something like A-Rod for Heath Bell and Emilio Bonafacio, but I won't get my hopes up.
Again, it's 4:30 in the morning, so don't kill me for this, but here's this...
Trade Granderson, Bichette and some fillers to the Nats for Anthony Rendon and Tyler Moore.
I might be completely wrong on this, but I wouldn't be shocked if they listen on offers for Rendon. Zimmerman is blocking him at third, Espinoza is possibly blocking him at second, and they really seem to like LaRoche or Morse as a first baseman. Harper would be much better suited to be a right fielder, Werth could then stay in left and Grandy would take over in center. Rendon could be our third baseman of the future, and Tyler Moore could be a great platoon guy in the outfield for us. This also gives them another good power threat in their lineup. So that's my half-asleep rationalization.
Then, this three-team trade.
Yankees get: Justin Upton (ARI)
Diamondbacks get: Tyler Austin (NYY), Ramon Flores (NYY), Eduardo Nunez (NYY), Taylor Green (MIL), Johnny Helwig (MIL)
Brewers get: Ivan Nova (NYY)
Then, trade Brett Marshall, David Adams and Angelo Gumbs to Cleveland for Sin-Soo Choo.
So here's how the lineup would look(new acquisitions bolded):
Jeter, SS, R
Choo, LF, L
Upton, RF, R
Cano, 2B, L
Teixeira, 1B, S
Rendon, 3B, R
Ibanez, DH, L
Martin, C, R
Gardner, CF, L
Bench:
Romine/Cervelli, C
Nix, SS/INF
Melky Mesa, OF
Moore, 1B/cornerOF
Rotation:
CC
Kuroda
Pettitte
Hughes
Phelps*
*possible placeholder for Pineda. If Pineda looks good and ready for a comeback, move Phelps to the bullpen after the all-star break or whenever. Or, if Phelps is killing it, I bet Pineda would be a nasty reliever for a playoff run.
Bullpen:
Mo
D-Rob
Bell
Boone
Joba
Aardsma
Freddy/Warren/Phelps
The bullpen is definitely subject to change since Montgomery will likely be ready by mid-season, and Goody might not be far behind him.
Again, it's late, so I'm probably going to look at this tomorrow and slap myself. Also, I usually hate knee-jerk reactions, but I REALLY want A-Rod, Swisher and Granderson gone. This is a lot of change, and there's no chance for this happening, but I'd absolutely love to see this get done somehow.

O-H-I-O!
Welcome home, Urban
So...do people still want to argue with me that they'd rather have Granderson than Jackson?
