I don't ... I don't get it. Why is no one listening? Nunez would be a young Soriano like hitter and base runner. Find him a damn spot.

    Alfonso Soriano?

Where exactly is the evidence that this guy will hit for power? he has 7 career home runs in 500 abs..

Soriano blasted 18 homeruns and stole over 40 bags in 600 at bats..

Nunez is close to a Soriano with his bat.. Rafael Soriano..

If the Yanks move out payroll then ToriiHunter comes to the Bronx. Or go with CC, Pettitte, Hughes, Nova and Phelps and avoid spending $14 million on Kuroda and then Hunter could be signed for 2 years...

$$$$$$$ will keep Soriano in Chicago...the Yanks are standing firm on $189 for 2014, after that the wallet is coming out....

I dont think that is entirely true. Just because you hit the $189 in 2014 doesnt mean they will go out and open the wallet. The CBA on that has the following:

    2012: $178 million
    2013: $178 million
    2014: $189 million
    2015: $189 million
    2016: $189 million

The tax rate based on what you go over is:
    First-time offenders: 17.5 percent
    Second-time offenders: 30 percent
    Third-time offenders: 40 percent
Four-time or more offenders: 50 percent

So yes, if the Yankees go under the $189, they can reset back to 17.5% for the remaining amount over the $189 figure. Do you think this they will want to go back to 50% just because? Nope.

Since 2003, the Yankees have paid over $206 million dollar in luxary tax only. And what do they have to show for it? 1 WS Championship.

So to think that they want to continue this trend makes no business sense.

Sorry, the game of baseball is changing to the point that just having money (even for the Yankees) may decide who they sign and for how long.

Why do you think I am harping on the Arod and Cano package? From a baseball sense, its not good to get rid of your best player (even if he didnt show up in the playoffs) but to get out of the burden of ARod and the pending Cano contract. And it only makes sense if you can have the other team eat all of its (aka Dodger absorbing Crawfords contract). You know with Boras, he will get 25 mil annually for 6 to 8 years. Its almost a given. So instead of watching him leave without compensation, utilize the value thing and cut your loses, sign current FAs fiscally and go from there. If not and you want to ride this wave out, then just be prepared that the team will be filled with even more cheap vets (no swisher - replace with cheap, no soriano - replace with Joba) and watch the ever declining under contract players eat away at your flexibility. Of course, this can all be moot if everyone just decide to accept a 10% seat/parking increase year over year (to also account for inflation) to cover the tax bill.

^ two unrelated comments on your post info:

1- Don't be fooled that the Yankee Ownership only considers WS Titles as success. Making money far outweighs titles.

2- I think Boston was ahead of the curve by unloading those contracts. I believe last year was the end of the mega contract and they got a head start. You won't see many more huge deals, if any going fwd.
