what are you talking about? He was a good hitter for the Yankees that came through in clutch moments!!! He is i would say easily a better fielder than Swisher. I don't see where the downgrade is maybe at home runs but he can produce in other areas that Swisher can not

    Nick Swisher 2012
    BA: .272
    OPS: .837
    OPS+: 126
    wOBA: .363
    WRC: 128
    WPA: 1.82

Melky Cabrera 2009 (I chose the better between the years)
    BA: .274 (2009)
    OPS: .752 (2009)
    OPS+: 93 (2009)
    wOBA: .329 (2009)
    WRC: 94 (2009)
    WPA: -.75

Yup, he's better than Swisher if he reverts back to his presteroid #s....

I saw on the Bronx Bomber fan page on facebook that Ichiro resigned with the Yankees today. I cannot find anything on the web about this. Anyone hear something?

there are a couple things you are failing to mention here besides putting up stats
    1. Melky brings speed to the lineup where Swisher does not
    2. In big spots who comes up with the big hit between the two?
    3. Cabrera costs alot less then Swisher which makes him a much more attractive player than Swisher

you can't just put up stats because they don't mention half of things you see every game from these players!

WPA takes into account just that.
WPA (win probability added): WPA is the difference in win expectancy (WE) between the start of the play and the end of the play. That difference is then credited/debited to the batter and the pitcher. Over the course of the season, each players’ WPA for individual plays is added up to get his season total WPA.
Basically it's a measure of how what the player does influences the outcome of the games. So if Melky was that great in the clutch, he must have totally sucked the rest of the time.

Or you can go to baseball reference and look at their splits. You'll see Swisher is actually better in high leverage situations. Melky for his career, is best in low leverage situations.

a checklist that calls for a No. 2 pitcher and a more balance team and you hope to achieve this by not signing free agents or trading prospects?

not trading the top prospects and not signing Hamilton or Grienke. The free agents that will be over payed are the ones i want the Yankees to stay away from. Getting a #2 starter without giving up the top prospects can be done just have to find the right team

I was hoping so, but I don't think the yanks are doing squat.

never say never. None of us thought the Yankees would sign the 3 big free agents Sabathia,Burnett, and Texeria back in 2009

People remember Melky for having 3 or 4 big hits that won games and throwing out a runner or two from CF, but they forget that he was never even a league average hitter when he was here. His best OPS+ as a Yankee was 93.
