Since everyone is doing it, lol... This is what I would do.

    Free Agency:

A.J. Pierzynski- 1 year deal – 6.5M – He’s been a decent hitting catcher for a while. He gets a slight pay raise from last season.
Ryan Madson- 1 year deal – 3M with a mutual option for 2014 worth 5M – He’s coming back from TJS. He could be a potential Soriano replacement.
Carlos Lee- 1 year deal – 2M – Replaces Jones as the right-handed power of the bench. Had a reverse platoon split in 2012 but from 09-11, he OPS’d near .900 against LHP.
Maicer Izturis- 1 year deal – 1.5M – He defends 3B, SS and 2B fairly well and can put up good AB’s against RHP.

    Trades:

Yankees Trade: Ivan Nova, Mason Williams, Austin Romine, David Phelps, Mark Montgomery and Corban Joseph
Rockies Trade: Carlos Gonzalez, Matt Belisle

Why? Rockies need pitching. They get a GB pitcher (w/ decent K-rates) who has had success in the AL East in Nova. He will be pitching in the NL West which features 3 pitcher parks. They get another guy that should crack their rotation in Phelps and a guy who can be an ace reliever (Montgomery) in their ****** bullpen. They get a top 50 prospect who would replace CarGo in the outfield in 2014. A former top 100 prospect in Romine and another top 10 (Yankees prospect) in Corban Joseph who is ML ready while shedding some salary for other improvements. Yankees get a potential superstar who should carry over his ridiculous stats to Yankee Stadium. People look at his home/road splits and rightfully so but there should be no decrease in production with his move to YS. For a team as bad as the Rockies, Belisle is a luxury that they should get rid of. A good reliever but not worth 4+ mill on a rebuilding team.

    Yankees Trade: Dellin Betances
Royals Trade: Jeff Francoeur, John Lamb, 2M in cap

Why? Royals need the $$ because Francoeur was a bust this season and they need to clear out spots to play their exciting young players including Wil Myers. If they can fix Betances, they can have a hard-throwing young starter for the foreseeable future. It’s a gamble worth taking. For the Yankees, they cut their losses for the 2nd year in a row (Brackman last year). Francoeur, while pretty poor in 2012, continued to play excellent OF defense (19 OF assists) and while he struggled in 2012 to hit lefties he absolutely torched them from 09-11 (.317 / .361 / .516 / .877 ) in over 400 AB’s. Lamb is a throw-in prospect used to entice the Yankees.

    Yankees Trade: Curtis Granderson
Padres Trade: RHP Casey Kelly, RHP Brad Boxberger, OF Reymond Fuentes

Why? The Padres 2013 offense could be very good. Quentin should be healthy. Headley will look to duplicate 2012. Grandal, Alonso will have a season under their belt and will look to add to their 2012 seasons. Plus they will likely start another potential stud in Jedd Gyorko at some position.. You add a guy like Granderson to that mix (6th in ISO and 11th in BB% (AL ranks)) and you add length and power to that line-up. Kelly, once very promising, might be the 4th best pitching prospect for the Padres at this moment. His ceiling is maybe a mid rotation starter now rather than a front end starter. Boxberger is a relief prospect. Huge K-rates and power stuff. ML ready and Fuentes is a long way off. Former Sox prospect who went with Kelly to the Padres in the A-Gon trade. Fuentes just hasn’t been able to hit much but is still young and offers other decent tools.

    Depth Chart

    C- A.J Pierzynski / Chris Stewart
    1B- Mark Teixeira
    2B- Robinson Cano
3B- Alex Rodriguez / Maicer Izturis
    SS- Derek Jeter
    LF- Carlos Gonzalez
    CF- Brett Gardner
RF- Ichiro Suzuki / Jeff Francoeur
DH- Raul Ibanez / Carlos Lee

    Rotation

    CC Sabathia
    Hiroki Kuroda
    Andy Pettitte
    Phil Hughes
    Casey Kelly / Michael Pineda

*Pineda comes back mid-season and takes over the last spot. Kelly is pushed to the bullpen or the minors. Lowe is DFA’d*

    Bullpen

    Derek Lowe
    Clay Rapada
    David Aardsma/Matt Belisle
    Joba Chamberlain
    Boon Logan
    Ryan Madson
    David Robertson

*Madson takes over closing duties mid-way through the season* *Cody Eppley is in AAA as insurance*

    AAA Pitching Depth:
    Brett Marshall
    Matt Tracy
    Cody Eppley
    Chase Whitley

with the crappy options at catcher why in the world would AJ settle for a 1 year deal?

why are we trading all of our prospects for carlos gonzalez? a guy who has frequently been injured and who suffers from massive splits

why in the world would the royals add lamb to a trade to get rid of francour

and why would the padres send us all of those high talented kids for 1 year of granderson

and banking on any production out of madson is like banking on aardsma this year

Not necessarily advocating trading for CarGo, and obviously this is a bit of a sketchy comparison, but while we're talking about bad home/road splits, remember Gio Gonzalez last offseason? Yeah.

I don't think I would make the Gonzalez deal. The home/away splits are just too significant to ignore. Plus, he's gives back some of the offensive value on defense. fWAR in 2012 was just 2.7. That's a downgrade from Swisher.

I'm not a big Jeff Francouer fan, but that deal is OK. I'm not sure the Royals do it though.

The Padres are absolutely not giving up those guys for a year of Curtis Granderson. The 40 HRs will turn into 25 in the NL West.

The bullpen you came up with looks fine, but I think you may have left one pretty significant guy out of the mix.

Via Sanspo (translated article): The Nippon Ham Fighters will select 18-year-old right-hander Shohei Otani in the first round of the NPB draft tomorrow. Otani, who Ben Badler (subs. req’d) says is one of the top high school prospects in Japan, has already said that he wants to join an MLB team this winter.

The NPB draft is nothing like the MLB draft — every team can select the same player, then his rights get awarded through a lottery. Chad Moriyama explained the whole crazy system. Balder reports that Otani would still be able to sign with an MLB team even if an NPB club drafts him, but the two leagues have an gentleman’s agreement in place preventing them from poaching each other’s amateur players. Otani could instead ask his club to post him a la Yu Darvish and Daisuke Matsuzaka.

The team will basically stay the same folks....aside from the bench we are stuck with another year of a boring offense.....

I believe Pettitte and Kuroda both come back and why not.

Cashman said he wants to get better but not necessarily younger, so expect Ibanez back...

If Im the Yankees I pursue Troy Tulowitzki before Carlos Gonzalez because Tulo can play Shortstop or move to Third (we just need him to stay healthy)

I say pursue Justin Upton and Mike Moustakas and Elvis Andrus. Trade A-Rod, Grandy, and Cano. Cano is lazy and i wouldnt want to give him a 10 yr deal worth 200+ mil (exhibit 1: A-Rod, exhibit 2: A-Rod). Grandy is too all or nothing. Make the team younger.

Are you aware of the Yankees' intentions to get their payroll to 189 million by next season? It would be impossible with all the signings you are proposing.
