Since everyone is doing it, lol... This is what I would do.
A.J. Pierzynski- 1 year deal – 6.5M – He’s been a decent hitting catcher for a while. He gets a slight pay raise from last season.
Ryan Madson- 1 year deal – 3M with a mutual option for 2014 worth 5M – He’s coming back from TJS. He could be a potential Soriano replacement.
Carlos Lee- 1 year deal – 2M – Replaces Jones as the right-handed power of the bench. Had a reverse platoon split in 2012 but from 09-11, he OPS’d near .900 against LHP.
Maicer Izturis- 1 year deal – 1.5M – He defends 3B, SS and 2B fairly well and can put up good AB’s against RHP.
Yankees Trade: Ivan Nova, Mason Williams, Austin Romine, David Phelps, Mark Montgomery and Corban Joseph
Rockies Trade: Carlos Gonzalez, Matt Belisle
Why? Rockies need pitching. They get a GB pitcher (w/ decent K-rates) who has had success in the AL East in Nova. He will be pitching in the NL West which features 3 pitcher parks. They get another guy that should crack their rotation in Phelps and a guy who can be an ace reliever (Montgomery) in their ****** bullpen. They get a top 50 prospect who would replace CarGo in the outfield in 2014. A former top 100 prospect in Romine and another top 10 (Yankees prospect) in Corban Joseph who is ML ready while shedding some salary for other improvements. Yankees get a potential superstar who should carry over his ridiculous stats to Yankee Stadium. People look at his home/road splits and rightfully so but there should be no decrease in production with his move to YS. For a team as bad as the Rockies, Belisle is a luxury that they should get rid of. A good reliever but not worth 4+ mill on a rebuilding team.
Yankees Trade: Dellin Betances
Royals Trade: Jeff Francoeur, John Lamb, 2M in cap
Why? Royals need the $$ because Francoeur was a bust this season and they need to clear out spots to play their exciting young players including Wil Myers. If they can fix Betances, they can have a hard-throwing young starter for the foreseeable future. It’s a gamble worth taking. For the Yankees, they cut their losses for the 2nd year in a row (Brackman last year). Francoeur, while pretty poor in 2012, continued to play excellent OF defense (19 OF assists) and while he struggled in 2012 to hit lefties he absolutely torched them from 09-11 (.317 / .361 / .516 / .877 ) in over 400 AB’s. Lamb is a throw-in prospect used to entice the Yankees.
Yankees Trade: Curtis Granderson
Padres Trade: RHP Casey Kelly, RHP Brad Boxberger, OF Reymond Fuentes
Why? The Padres 2013 offense could be very good. Quentin should be healthy. Headley will look to duplicate 2012. Grandal, Alonso will have a season under their belt and will look to add to their 2012 seasons. Plus they will likely start another potential stud in Jedd Gyorko at some position.. You add a guy like Granderson to that mix (6th in ISO and 11th in BB% (AL ranks)) and you add length and power to that line-up. Kelly, once very promising, might be the 4th best pitching prospect for the Padres at this moment. His ceiling is maybe a mid rotation starter now rather than a front end starter. Boxberger is a relief prospect. Huge K-rates and power stuff. ML ready and Fuentes is a long way off. Former Sox prospect who went with Kelly to the Padres in the A-Gon trade. Fuentes just hasn’t been able to hit much but is still young and offers other decent tools.
C- A.J Pierzynski / Chris Stewart
1B- Mark Teixeira
2B- Robinson Cano
3B- Alex Rodriguez / Maicer Izturis
SS- Derek Jeter
LF- Carlos Gonzalez
CF- Brett Gardner
RF- Ichiro Suzuki / Jeff Francoeur
DH- Raul Ibanez / Carlos Lee
Casey Kelly / Michael Pineda
*Pineda comes back mid-season and takes over the last spot. Kelly is pushed to the bullpen or the minors. Lowe is DFA’d*
David Aardsma/Matt Belisle
*Madson takes over closing duties mid-way through the season* *Cody Eppley is in AAA as insurance*
