Whenever I read around a Cubs board lately I keep seeing this confusion with Baez and the Gary Sheffield comp. Nobody is comparing his game to Gary Sheffield, that would be ridiculous. The comparison is always, always made to the kind of bat speed he produces/possesses.
Also had no idea the immortal Mariano Duncan was a hitting coach in the Cubs organization (Daytona).

if he produces 1/2 of what sheffield did, I'd call that a W

It is anyway, not anyways.
Half of Gary Sheffield would be a .454 OPS with with 255 HRs. Strangest player ever.
It's his swing also isn't it?
True story. Weirdly enough, that is how much of the rWAR that Robinson Cano has been worth to this point in his career. Yo dat's crazy I was like whaaaat.

Weeks was drafted #2 overall after tearing apart college baseball. He won 2 batting titles and finished college hitting .473. He was another one of those "zomg potential 70/70(!)" prospects. Guy was a monster in college...immense hype.
I think Baez can be the better 2B defender between them.
Cubs ink former Indians RP Jensen Lewis to a minor league deal. Last year he pitched for the DBacks in AAA.
Is Vitters an internal Rizzo? I has been pondering this. I knock him but given the 3B situation around baseball....What are the chances he puts up a .270/.305/.420 season next year? Tha would put him as around a league average hitter, which IIRC is better than your typical 3B right now. Bill James projection system has him for .253/.293/.411 with 15 HRs.
I said this about him during his callup that he looked more fluid than I thought he would be athletically. He's not clunky and blockish just yet, which gives me some hope for his D. A homegrown infield would be nice in 2013.
Bill James projections are trash...
That said, if he can actually play acceptable 3rd base he's at least a decent option
