Law said he lacks the speed to make up for his poor reads, which I can understand and agree with him on. He's fast, not elite. He needs to continue to learn how to read the ball off the bat more accurately.

I think you're all a little quick to jump ship on Szczur. Coming from someone who never saw his ceiling as more than an in-his-prime Victorino; but some of you seem to think he won't even contribute at the big league level.

His reads must be extremely poor then...

He's been hitting the ball really well (BA is above .300) in the winter leagues and been playing some corner OF spots as well.

I hadn't read this. Thanks for posting it. I love the write up on Soler.

Could see the argument for Maples at 4. He does have a TOR starter ceiling but a long ways to go to reach that. Has some of the highest upside in our system.

The order is a bit puzzling, but there's some interesting stuff in the write-ups. In the comments, he says the scouts he talked to pegged Maples as having the highest upside in the league, so he's high on the list for pure ceiling.

Maples is my third best Cubs SP prospect and probably not in the top 10.

If they're correct about how good Maples' pitches are/could be that would make him pretty special and is probably one of the big differences between the FG list and other lists.

On the BP list, they did mention that there is a lot of potential for the Cubs' pitching prospects but injuries have prevented them from showing what they can do.

I can't put him any higher than 4th best SP prospect in the system. Horrible command, injury/durability concerns, ugly mechanics, etc. He screams bullpen to me. I hope he can clean up the mechanics a bit, which in turn should help out the command, but I'm not really holding my breath on Maples.

Same here. Who'd I forget? Paniagua, Underwood...Oh, I assume Pierce Johnson? I've already regulated him to a future pen arm as well as I don't trust his durability.

Anyone know what the plan is with McNutt? Are they gonna keep him in the bullpen next season or give him another shot at starting?
