Tannehill was third in his class of 235 at Big Spring (Texas) High. He was a pre-med major at Texas A&M with a 3.6 grade-point average. Sherman, who coached him in college, remembers Tannehill riding on team buses with a chemistry book.
How does that translate to football? Sherman had just come from watching video of the Dolphins win against St. Louis and mentioned a play where Tannehill recognized an all-out blitz, changed the protection to pick up every defender except one, whom he threw away from and completed a downfield pass.
"When I watched it, I said, 'How'd he know to do that?' '' Sherman said.
