    Braves reclaim Jordan Schafer

The Braves announced that they have claimed center fielder Jordan Schafer off waivers from the Astros. He really hasn't hit at all since he was suspended for PED use back in 2009, but as an athletic 26-year-old with a good glove, he's still got a chance to be a bench contributor. Perhaps coming back to a familiar organization will help him get his head screwed on straight.

Hard to dislike the Braves picking up young talent given that they only had 27 players on their 40-man roster prior to picking up Schafer.

Not to bad. Could be a good 4th OF'er.

Surely doesn't hurt, we need the depth at CF anyways just for his D. Only have like two guys in the minors who could even patrol CF well.

We also removed pitchers Cordier and Fish and catcher Boscan from the 40 man roster.

Good Move! Not the answer but it does not hurt to have depth.

Who was it on here who friggin loved Jordan Schafer? And I'll be pissed if Constanza isn't the full time 4th OF next year.

I love it if he gets no PT other than pinch-running.

Ha, good times..good times. I thought he was a better fielder..-11,-7,-6 DRS...doesn't have all that good of range..

    Yea...I'll try Georgie first...but this doesn't hurt.

Not a bad move....... Defended well when he was in Atlanta, not sure if it fell off in Hou. Fast, cheap, and young. Not bad FW.

I hated we let him go the 1st time... I only pray he's healed from those wrist injuries and matured as a man and as a player... He was our top prospect for a reason... Now prove the Braves right and be the Jordan Schafer he should be

I think this is the guy you're referring to...

...and ironically, Schafer gettiing "waived from piss poor performance" is exactly what just happened. As for the Constanza bit, besides the fact that the Braves will likely carry two bench outfielders, I don't see how the older Constanza is automatically a better option than Schafer. They performed really about the same last year, and Schafer has upside that Constanza can't really even dream of. At the end of the day, upside isn't what you care about in a fourth outfielder, but Constanza isn't so good that he's guaranteed to hold off Schafer if the young kid figures something out.

See above regarding Constanza, but this is one case where I'm opting to take the defensive stats with a grain of salt. His sample size is still actually not that big (about 1800 innings, which is only a season and change), and he's always gotten glowing reviews for his defense from scouts and experts. I'm marking him down as a good defensive CF in my book, with a good arm to boot.

PLEASE tell me this is just a bench move. If he thinks Schafer is going to fill one of the OF spots then we better be going for Wright and Hamilton too. That's 3 holes in the linup if he's getting the starting nod.
