This is strange to me, I know 10 mil is a lot for the A's, I just don't see another options there for us, at least internally.

I don't get the surprise about Drew. It was pretty obvious it was going to happen. The question the whole time has been will we sign him to a multi-year deal. As for the Balfour part no surprise, good to see.

No, that's not really what I'm saying. In reality the A's would only be paying 8.5 million for the 1 year as the 1.5 buyout is already a sunk cost. So 8.5 million for one year of Drew? I say it's worth the risk, and it's only 1 year. If he declines, fine, we don't have to pay our "sunk cost". But that's not the way it went. Frankly, I think Drew is going elsewhere, and so we have no SS. When was the last time a FA Boras client signed with us?

Oic, thanks for clearing that up. That's actually a very good point. I wonder why Billy and Co. didn't go that route. I think you are right that Drew signs elsewhere.

It looks like we'll be going into 2013 at SS like we did going into 2012 at 3B (post Sizemore injury).

All we really need at SS is someone who can play D. Sure, it'd be nice to get an all around player but those guys are hard to come by at SS.
