Seems like a decent trade, parrino can play some short and we all know that Beane is one of the best at finding undervalued pitchers. I know many will be happy to see Ross gone, but I kind of liked him and thought he might have a decent chance to be a good rp. Jones had some pop, got on base a lot, but he is 24 just finishing single A in an offensive league. We will have to see how it turns out.
I'll certainly be counted as one who is happy to see Ross go. His control issues were just a bit too much. Werner will be a good addition along with SS depth with Parrino.
If the Angels don't sign Greinke, their rotation is looking pretty thin. Weaver, Wilson, and then a bunch of crap. And if one of those two go down, it's gonna be real ugly. However I can see them making a move for some depth...although their farm is already pretty thin.
Between Greinke, Anibal Sanchez and Kyle Lohse the Angels must sign one of them. Even with one of these free agents (barring a trade) their rotation does look weak. They may have to use Barry Enright, Garrett Richards or Greg Smith in the rotation as well. Enright used to pitch for the Diamondbacks, Richards started 9 games for LAA and Greg Smith was a former Athletic.
A's signed Justin Thomas (LHP) and Darwin Perez (UTIL) to minor league contracts.
Thomas (28 years old) only threw 7 2/3 innings last year between NYY and BOS. He only has a career 24 2/3 innings in the MLB. Thomas has really good Minor League numbers. In 2008 and 2009 he pitched in the PCL, in 2010 to 2012 he pitched in the IL. In 5 AAA seasons, Thomas is 19-8 with a 3.62 ERA in 263 2/3 innings. He has 238 strikeouts with a 2.31 K/BB ratio.
Perez (22 years old) made it as high as AAA in 2010 with Salt Lake (Angels). He didn't do very well hitting under .200 in 47 at bats. In 2011 and 2012 Perez was an everyday player in AA Arkansas (Angels). He hit .236 with a .321 SLG. He played 2B, SS and 3B in those 2 seasons.
I think Perez was picked up to fill out the AA and AAA rosters. It seems to me that Thomas is another AAAA player that the A's could get use out of. He may be another Jerry Blevins type.
Hey guys long time Blue Jays and A's fan here. I was just think about Oakland being a good trading partner for the Jays and right now Jays seem to have a lot of talent and some guys who could be moved. The A's always have good young pitching coming up the ranks and seem to always lack a bit in position players even though this year was amazing for you guys I think you could still add a bat or 2.
I write this cause these are my 2 favorite teams and have been since the bash brother days but really have a hard time getting info on the A's and watching A's games being on so late(I'm from east coast) and TV in Canada never carrying many of there game. I like to get an A's fan with more knowledge to think of a trade to fit both teams fairly.
Blue jays needs right now are at 2nd base, another pitcher and a power bat DH who hits lefty's. Right now players that could be moved are JPA, Rajai Davis, Emilio Bonifacio, Colby Rasmus, Adam Lind and some prospects.
Rajai Davis lol. Glad we no longer have that guy. You're basically naming positions that we're pretty much already set at. Our holes are basically SS, possibly C and possibly 2B. Those are pretty much our only positions of need. There's a pretty good chance one of the players we throw at 2B end up serviceable.
