    Jason tarver

Unfortunately the defense has not shown their potential as of yet,but we just needs players to fit the scheme.I personally think this guy is going to be a great coach in the future.Says the right things, great mind for the game.It is not going to happen this season I know, but hopefully RM and coach Allen can make this team better in the off season and continue to give some players with talent who are coachable and love to play football to coach Tarver.

So far, I am a bit disappointed....

I'm willing to give him a bit of a pass as it seems they are tackling much better and the injuries to the secondary. However, our DL looked better under Brez so either they aren't playing well for him, or his scheme blows. Our roster isn't vey good due to the management and salaries of the defense the last few years, but really.....he's got to be able to do something other them being worse then the crap we've been accustomed to since Willie left.

I understand what you mean dude.I also think ever other team realises our DL has been the strongest part of our Defense in the past and have on most pass plays left max protections in place if you were refering to fewer sacks. We just need to get rid of the dead wood and get people who love football and Tarver's rules will become affective.Like Madstork has been saying expect a lot of new faces

Oh I do... Kelly, Seymour, huff, Mitchell...all gone IMO. Don't get me wrong, I love Rich, but we could afford two good DB's for his salary. McClain need to be replaced, not necessarily cut, but I could care less if he's here. Between Bryant, shawnasty, and Houston I would love to see a NT picked up and a move to 3-4. I believe in the discipline and tackling he's teaching, that part is awesome man. I feel sorry for the entire coaching staff for what they inherited, other then knapp. Knapp can eat sh$t and fall off a cliff for all I care.

'as it seems' their tackling is better? their tackling is heads and shoulders better from the recent past. we give allen all the credit for the good things of the team, but none to tarver? makes no sense. the penalties and tackling are vastly improved and alone warrant a HUGE standing ovation. the scheme will come along, just wait for it.

As they say...."A carpenter is only as good as the tools that you give him." So if you apply this theory then the disappointment of not only the defense but the whole team will make sense from ownership on down. Let's face it Al Davis left a bigger mess for Mark Davis and Reggie McKenzie to clean-up than was left for Barack Obama by George W. Bush. I have another great quote "Hope is spring's eternal." In the spring in we all had these thoughts....If we just, Or add this person, Trade or cut this person. I think secretly we thought this team was a lot closer than it was. And then came training camp and what we saw didn't match up with our perceptions. So here we are, Coming off the bye; We are now five weeks in and we don't look much better than we did in early August. There's plenty of blame to go around for that, But secretly we all knew this was going to take a while. We were hoping for a turnaround like in San Francisco but those types of turnarounds are few and far between. We must realize the fact that that team was already ready to win, They just needed to stabilize the QB position. Once they did that they took off. We have been in trouble for ten years now and are just now really starting the process. And just like the United States, It's gonna take a while. But the payoff will be great!

Well.....when you give up as many yards as we do....it's probably due to missed tackles bro lol

But yes, the fundamentals look better. But it's hard to say your team is tackling well when it looks this bad and misses assignments week in week out. T sure as hell hasn't made Huff or McClain any better at tackling.

Our DL is old and overpaid. Once some of these scholarship players get cut or traded this off-season I will start to judge both Tarver and Allen for their defense.

With this cat, I keep thinking we're about to see some wizard ****.

So far, we're worse than last year. Even with far less penalties.

Hopefully tomorrow we'll see some D!

sounds like you prefer to keep your mind blown. are you saying strict man > hybrid? cuz that worked sooo well the last 4 years. or that we have great players and tarver's/allen's schemes are worthless? it's not like we are deep at every position with solid players. quite the contrary- we are trying to make do with some of the scrubs we have. this scheme is very different from the crappy one that brez had in place and will take time to get acclimated to it, time that not many in this forum seem willing to give the new coaches.

you ignored the strides we've made in discipline. i'll trade beating ourselves with undisciplined stupidity for what we've seen so far every time. being near the top of the damn league in penalties instead of at the bottom is nothing to scoff at tarver about.

losing Waufle was big. he was a great DL coach. look at what he's doing with the Rams....

I like the way you think. I dont think we can go to a 3-4 though.
My reason why is that our strength is DLine. And then we would
be putting a ton of faith in our LBs. Who are probably the worst group in the AFC. It doesnt sound like a good formula for success.

I would love to go to a 3-4, but we would need 3 decent LBs, 2 NTs and we need a decent Corner. At least 1. lol

Al didnt do alot of stupid moves this off season, like:
-Sign Tollefson. Why? When we need the cap room. He is not good.
-Sign Bartell. Bad corner before he got here, bad corner while here. surprise.
    (makes me miss Routt.)
-We had a runstopping DT in Henderson(our only runstuffing DT we had). And we let him go with no DT who can do that. Or even a big body to stuff the run.
    -Let Bush go.
-Traded a 1st round and a 2nd rounder for a QB that got us the same amount of wins as Jason Campbell did the previous year. What an amazing upgrade. This year, he is so good that we are 1-3.

Who created a bigger mess? So, now we have no good CBs, No runstuffers on the D line, No LBs that are good(maybe Burris will be good), No good pass catching TEs, No decent backup RB and an overpriced QB.
And we barely made the cap.
