I would definitely consider trade with the Royals in return for some young bats.

I think that their goal is to resign Wright, let these young pitchers mature, and then add around them when they're ready in 2014/15. Its sad but it's worth it.
And about the Royals bats, I agree. I would trade Dickey or Niese to get Gordon. Perfect 5 hitter IMO
The only problem with Gordon is that he is another left handed bat.
We have too many lefties right now.
And "ultimately," Alderson said, "It's pretty clear by now that I am an incompetent buffoon."

Who cares is Gordon bats left? He's a legitimate outfielder, and one of the best in baseball.
He hit .303/.376/.502 with 45 2B and 23 HR and + defense in LF in 2011, and this year he hit .294/.368/.455 with 51 2B with 14 HR and ++ defense in LF.
His WAR was 6.9 in 2011 and 5.9 in 2012 and his strike out rate is very respectable for someone who can take a walk. He strikes out in about 20% of his plate appearances.
Yeah i would take Alex Gordon in a heartbeat.
Great doubles hitter, has good power, would do really well with his + gap power in Citi Field.
Probably one of the more underrated players in the league last year because he plays where no one watches him in Kansas City.

Well 2014 is the make or break year for Sandy.
I don't think there is any question about that.
He has an option for 2015 but if this team doesn't take steps in the right direction it's over.
If they don't improve in 2014, that will be 6 straight years of 70 win teams and 4 under his tenure.
He will have had a long enough leash after this year already that firing him should be no question if they don't start winning in 2014.

If we can't resign Dickey and Wright this off-season, how about these trades.
Wright to the Angels for Peter Bourjos(25 CF w/ plus defense and great SB ability); Kaleb Cowart(20 year old 3B in High A, walks well, he's a top 5 prospect in their farm, should be MLB ready by All Star Break 2014), Alberto Callaspo(basically a placeholder til Flores or Cowart comes up, however he gets on base and he's a plus fielder), and Garrett Richards(24 year old righty starter, he's their top 2 prospect, and could start in our rotation now)
Dickey to the Royals for Alex Gordon(28 year old LF w/ plus defense; decent OBP and slugging, and he's locked up til 2015)
Sure it's not equal value for our two franchise players, but you never recieve equal value in trading stars. However, we gain two PROVEN MLB outfielders; a potential starter for us in 2013, and a potential 3B for us in mid-2014.
We basically go from a 74 win team, to worst case a 68-72 win team, maybe ,500 if we get lucky. Also, we'd have a legit promising young team w/ payroll flexibility for 2014 and beyond.
2013 Mets
Outfield: CF: Bourjos; RF: Kirk, LF: Gordon
Infield: 1B: Ike; 2B: Murphy, 3B: Alberto Callaspo, SS: Tejada, and C: Stoppach
Starters: Gee; Niese, Harvey, Wheeler, Richards
Bench: Duda; Thole, Turner, Dekker
Outside of the C and 2B position, we'd have great fielding at every position. Also, we would get on base well. Pitching and power would be mediocre, however our payroll would be at 50-60 mil come 2014 and most our players would be young and cheap.

Murphy and Gordon would double teams to death.
Mets need to keep David Wright. It doesn't make any sense to trade him whatsoever. He is the face of this franchise. Trading him would be a PR disaster.
Yes, it's important to keep him. However if we can't resign Wright this winter, then our chances of resigning him next year are little to none. This team is still in debt and lost money this year despite shedding 50 mil. What's the point of having Wright this year despite not extending him? We can't make the same mistake that we did w/ Reyes.
