A-Rod is just a shell of his former self. He seems to be on a rapid decline. He can't perform in the clutch. He can't stay healthy. And more sooner than later he probably wont be able to play third base.
So the Yankees are on the hook for 5 more season and $164 million dollars. Now I understand the initial thought that they thought they were going to get all this production and milestones out of him. And at the time he just had come off an MVP season and the best of his Yankee career. And from what I remember there were no signs we was on the decline.
But it wasn't even the amount of money as much as it was the length. How to you justify paying a guy $20 plus Mill until he is 42? And then give Derek Jeter, their captain, a true Yankee, a true professional a 3 year-$51 Mill contract? Which is a smarter decision but kind of a slap in the face of Jeter.
So is A-Rod's contract the worst and, also, what should they do when Jeter's deal expires?
