Cincinnati Reds @ St. Louis Cardinals
Friday, September 19, 7:15 PM CDT , Busch Stadium
David Holmberg, LHP
John Lackey, RHPHolmberg earned his first big league win Saturday over the Brewers behind the strength of a good changeup. Despite not being overpowering, his 86-89 fastball was spotted well and looked tougher in conjunction with the offspeed pitch.
Saturday, September 20, 6:15 PM CDT , Busch StadiumDue to arm fatigue, Lackey had his scheduled start skipped on Tuesday and was given an extra three days' rest. He lasted only two innings in a start against the Reds on Sept. 10 due to an ejection stemming from complaints about balls/strikes.
Mike Leake, RHP
Michael Wacha, RHPLeake crossed the 200-inning mark for the first time in his career in a loss Sunday at Milwaukee. Citing the feeling of a dead arm, Leake struggled with command and location, yanking his pitches out of the strike zone.
Sunday, September 21, 7:05 PM CDT , Busch StadiumWacha will be pitching after a 10-day layoff that was built in after growing concerns about the lack of command he showed upon returning from a right shoulder injury. Wacha should be free to push toward 90 pitches if all goes right.
Alfredo Simon, RHP
Lance Lynn, RHP
Lynn has allowed one run in each of his last three outings and will have a shot at eclipsing 200 innings this next time out. He has 22 quality starts and continues to pitch like a co-ace alongside Adam Wainwright.
