Kobe doing what Shaq should have done

Recently Kobe dived into the Shaq and Dwight debate and Kobe basically stuck up for Dwight his teamate (Article below). He embraces Dwight greatness and desire to be the greatest. I think that is something Shaq never did for Kobe it was never about who's team it is, it was about a young guard expanding his game and not being embraced to expand his game. Shaq was scared Kobe would pass him just like he is now Dwight will pass him and you know what with Kobe mentoring him I BELIEVE DWIGHT WILL PASS SHAQ JUST LIKE KOBE DID?

What do you guys think? Also what does Dwight have to do to pass Shaq?(Rem he already has 3 DOY awards).

To pass Shaq the main thing he has to do is win.

Unless he shoots FTs at a 70% clip, he's not passing Shaq; atleast not individually... Maybe in accolades, which would also be a tall task (4 rings, 3 Finals MVPs and 1 League MVP).

The expectations are visible behind Dwight Howard in LA

I was never a huge shaq fan, but dwight is nowhere near the player shaq was. Even if dwight was to win more titles, it would still not be close between the two. Comparing Lopez to dwight (which is not a close comparison either) is a closer comparison than comparing shaq to dwight and that's taking into account that shaq kind of underachieved for his career.

Dwight has be better than Shaq potential by maximizing his talents and winning.

Shaq is top 5 but he's below the other 4 IMO, which is a shame and all because of well Shaq. He had some of the best talent to lay with of anyone in the gpoat list but he burned bridges and was overall just not a hard worker as he could have been the greatest to ever play undisputed.

Dwight was the better player for their respective Magic careers with the finals victory, perennial playoffs, and dpoys. He could also be the better laker and winner, thus beating Shaq out the list like Kobe and Tim have done on the overall ranks.

And yeah I have Hakeem over Shaq. He schooled his ***** when they faced off, he won without close to the help Shaq had throughout his whole career, and his overall game was better

    ---

As for Kobe, helping Dwight does two things. It helps him win even more which he loves. He also gets to one up Shaq byshowingnhim what a mentor is supposed to do when passing the torch

Dwight was not the better magic.

    Shaq orlando: ppg = 27.15, reb = 12.4, blks = 2.32, fg = 58%
    dwight orlando: ppg = 18.4, reb = 13, blks = 2.2, fg = 57.7%

From the stats, it's pretty clear it's not that close. I know the stats don't tell everything, but that works in favor of dwight because the stats do not show how shaq's mere presence on the floor on the offensive end of the floor completely changed the game in way that no player since wilt has done. Shaq over dwight and it's not close to being close and again, I've never been a big shaq fan.

Shaq is in the past. Kobe has a few more years and wants to win championships. He is ready to pass the torch to D12.

To hell with what Snaq is talking about and just focus on winning and the rest will take care of itself!

I agree with the fact that Shaq never let Kobe progress forward and nor did he encourage him. The only time Shaq would rave about Kobe and call him "the best player on the planet" is when Kobe would bail his lazy *** out. Other than that, Shaq the "CEO" and "Big Chief Marketer" at the end of the day couldn't give a rats *** about Kobe and the Lakers Franchise after the Big Diesel hung him up.

I'm glad Kobe is slowly passing on the P&G Armor and Scepter to Dwight.

Shaq was just on another level. His resume plus stats have him in the top 5 discussion.

Dwight has a long way to go for that, and honestly, I'm doubtful. One step at a time though. They first have to work for that 1st championship.

Shaq gets no points for underachieving. We don't grade on a curve. I realize you're not doing it, but why even mention it?

Shaq was definitely better, but I wouldn't say Howard is "nowhere near" O'Neal's level. Howard is unquestionably better defensively, and Shaq was clearly better offensively, by a wider margin - making him clearly better. The margin is exaggerated, as it often is with Jordan and Bryant.

I understand Dwight is no where Shaq was offensively but think for a sec guys he led a orlando team of scrubs to the finals (Shaq did too). Shaq was dominant offensively ok on defense. Thats the opposite for Dwight dominant on defense ok on offense both suck at free throws. I think we put so much on offense we do not appreciate defense. The guy already has a final apperance and 3 DOY before he came to the Lakers. What did Shaq have before he came to the lakers. I know it sounds crazy cause I watched Shaq too but my man Dwight might have a shot

Dwight and SnaQ are two completely different types of players. Once Dwight gets his head around that and works to make his game unique, then all this comparison talk will fall away like a frozen off skin tag.
