According to this guy, the idea came to him after listening to the 'banter' earlier in the Hot Stove season when there was an alleged rumor that the Philadelphia Phillies were discussing an acquisition of Asdrubal Cabrera for third base.. That deal never materialized as the Phillies went ahead and acquired Ben Revere for essentially the same kind of package the Indians were hoping to receive for Asdrubal Cabrera: Vance Worley and Trevor May. That is, a BOR/MOR major league starting pitcher who has had some success and an SP prospect with significant upside to a MOR/FOR SP..

A similar deal with the Dodgers appears to be possible, however, the return for Cabrera would absolutely need to be be improved. That is, Asdrubal Cabrera >> Ben Revere.. This radio guy suggested the following:

Dodgers get: Asdrubal Cabrera and Joe Smith
Indians get: Chris Capuano, Yasiel Puig, & Corey Seager

FWIW, there isn't another SS candidate out there that can walk into a team and be that GOOD reason to move a player like Hanley Ramirez from SS to 3B. There are even fewer major leaguers that can play each of 2B, 3B & SS and still have the kind of offensive impact Asdrubal Cabrera brings to the team. The cost may be high, but so is the return.

    Thoughts?

I don't think so, I really would like Cabrera, but that is giving up quite a bit, plus you know Puig is making 7M a season, right?

oh... and to LASportsFan1996: Mr Depends-Wearer is using this as his excuse?..

Absolutely best deal possible for us. Anything more and we should just walk away. Cabrera would make us very solid all the way around. Only question would be leadoff. I still think we are going to be pulling off more trades here soon and I can see this as being plausible. Despite everyone's complaints about Ethier, I just dont think he is worth giving up to get anyone that is available. A package for Cano at this point, would be the only player I would consider to give him up for but even then, Cano will be a free agent and I think we will be players for him next offseason anyways since Ellis contract is up too.

I see no way possible that Cleveland would be excited for that trade.. Maybe if you swapped Seager for Gordon and threw in another lower spec and that still prob wouldn't excite them

mlbtraderumors says we may trade capuano to the mariners to get gutierrez back. don't know how to feel about that. I'd rather get a bullpen arm.

true but his contract would pretty much cancel out with capuano who is making 6...and Gutierrez is a career .293 hitter with a .830 OPS vs lefties, and he is a great defensive player. I mean its really not that bad, he'd be good insurance for crawford. But i'd still rather get a good reliever.

Cap for Gutierrez would give us our fourth outfielder. I think that's is a bigger hole right now than a reliever. Although, Derek Lowe is someone that i think would be great in a long relief/mop up role now that Wright got picked up by Seattle

If the Yankee's can void ARod's contract somehow, you know the Dodgers would take a look at ARod for next year and yes I know ARod is gonna be out for atleast half the year

Not saying we would, but honestly I'm not sold on Cruz yet, so I'll keep my options open

Cruz could be a one hit wonder type guy. If he performs close to what he did last year, it would be great.
