    Tribe to Hire Francona!

According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Indians will make Terry Francona their next manager.
The Tribe fired former skipper Manny Acta a couple days before the end of the regular season. Francona was labeled the frontrunner for the job soon after, and apparently hit the right notes during his interview with club officials earlier this week. It seems like a nice fit, though Francona won't be working with the kind of talent he had in Boston. Not immediately, at least.

I can't believe he would sign with us. Management must have told him they were going to increase the payroll since there isn't much help in the upper minors right now.

It's not going to make a difference if they don't improve the talent on the field. But I would think they made a big commitment to do that in order to convince Francona to sign with the Indians.

stop saying we don't have talent.. we do, were just a few pieces away. francona could come in here. him being gm could attract someone like dan haren(top of the rotation guy) and a big bat which is what we need. kipnis, asdrubal, santan, choo, brantley, chisenhall.. our bullpen. we have talent. stop saying we have none.. our record is no indication of the talent we have were just a couple peices shy of winning 85+ games next season

The start of something great to come in Carolina, bring on the haters!

We lost 94 games this year. We aren't just a few pieces away from contending for a playoff spot.

How can you say our record is no indication of our talent? Chisenhall is not yet proven even though you are listing him in with those guys, but I sure do hope he turns out to be a key cog for us.

I know you're trying to remain optimistic, but at the same time we need to be realistic.

we also had a manager the players gave up on.. were missing asdrubal for some time.. because our record isn't an indication. i firmly believe CP's comment when he said "most of our problems just walked out the door". our team gave up on him, when that happens the team just goes through the motions. remember my prediction come next sept, you'll owe me props

This is a nice first step. Whose available in free agency? I think it's kind of a lull off season. Sounds like Sizemore is expected to be out all of 2013 so I would expect no one to sign him. And I would hope they wouldn't resign Pronk.
Any chance they go after Josh Hamilton? We also need #1 pitcher.

Guys who are playing for a contract and for their career do not give up on a manager and just quit trying. Pronk needed to perform this year in order to get a guaranteed contract for next year. So did Derek Lowe, Casey Kotchman, Shelley Duncan, etc. These guys didn't give up, they just flat out weren't that good.

Let's wait until we see how the roster shapes up before anyone makes predictions for next September.

If we did go on a spending spree and sign someone like Dan Haren and Nick Swisher I would be a lot more excited for next season than I am currently. I hope they give us more reason for optimism this winter!

Francona is a great hire but what bothers me is Antonetti saying that we have the talent to win now stuff. But the way he is talked gives me the impression they are not looking to add anyone during the offseason, but rather develop what is already here. I mean I'm not expecting us to sign Hamilton or anything great, but do something....
