Kyle Lohse, RHP (16-3, 2.86 ERA)vsKris Medlen, RHP (10-1, 1.57 ERA)
News: Lohse will start in the Cardinals' one-game playoff against the Braves on Friday, MLB.com reports. Though Lohse has been excellent overall this season, he's performed more poorly on the road, recording a 3.41 ERA while allowing batters to hit .251. No matter where he plays, Lohse faces a major challenge in trying to hold serve with opposing starter Kris Medlen, who has arguably been baseball's most dominant pitcher over the past two months.
Come on now...do it for your boy.News: Medlen took the no-decision Tuesday against the Marlins, allowing three runs on five hits over seven innings while striking out eight. By Medlen's recent standards, these three earned runs seem more like eight. This is the first time he has surrendered three runs since a relief effort on May 2. He had allowed three runs total in his previous 54 innings. Medlen will pitch again on Sunday, but now that the Braves have clinched a playoff spot, don't expect a high pitch count, as they will send him to the bump for their pivotal play-in game on Oct. 5.
