The thing that does contradict is GMZ is very ambitious and i think he'd jump ship, and with felix extension talks.... that is going to be telling..... hope im just being anxious, but i can see them lowballing Felix, not getting a deal done, and than all of us stewing about paying him the $ or trade him while his value is at a peak...... The thing is, felix is going to be fair, we can extend him in the cole hamels range i believe no problem.
I think ownership, as well as Z are just waiting for the team to be at the right stage of the rebuild to spend money on big FA's. As much as Hamilton sounds nice, I think we are still a year away. I would like to see us get Felix extended, possibly trade Vargas, and unload Figgins. Get some more specs for those two. Let Smoak and Carp battle for the 1B job. Unload Olivo, and retain Jaso. With the fences coming in some of these guys should get another shot. We give up on them too soon we spend money to replace them that might not need to be spent, and these guys end up like Choo, or Ibanez when we let him got the 1st time. Saunders is our LF or CF. Of Guti cant stay healthy does he go? Saunders to CF and Carp back in LF if he hits in the spring? If Tacoma's hitting coach is brought up, I think we should keep these younger guys around. Hell I don't mind Thames either. This FA class looks kinda ******. Wait til next year, or trade for upgrades. At least get something for these guys in trade if you are going to give up. Hopefully we get more then we got for Choo.

my argument is.... the last time we made the playoffs we had the best attendance in baseball that year and the following, and slowly crept down with each losing season.

if we can be in the playoff race in September, we will be close to middle of the pack attendance wise and likely build on that the next year with more season ticket purchases.

Who is to say we are not 1 big bat away (Hamilton) from being a playoff team? Look at Oak and Baltimore. especially with young guys who can project improvement as well.

We are a fare weather fanbase, cant dispute that when we are winning, we are an electric baseball town and very profitable.

I can kinda understand ownership tho, they are snake-bitten with all the investments the last decade that have failed.

Scott Rolen is going to retire. Frazier will start again.

The only reason he didn't us cause Rolen is a vet, and Dusty Baker is an idiot. Frazier was much better, and I don't see a reason why they would trade him.

Rolen is a bum anyways. They'd be stupid to play him if he wasn't retiring.
