Harry, I grew up with the phillies and learned the game by your voice. You will always be missed but never forgotten. Though you are no longer with us, you'll never be "outta here" in our hearts!

Can anyone else smell the desperation ???

Look for a ridiculous deal to occur soon...

Amaro is too trigger happy to not respond to Atlanta signing bj Upton and the nats signing haren while getting an outfielder themselves....

oh boy I hope this doesn't happen....so we gain a 37 old declining player who cant really play third anymore and give up a young major league bullpen arm from a bullpen that cant afford to lose any of our young guys....I'd honestly rather go with frandsen/galvis

Reading Salisbury...says Ichiro told The Phils he could play center. Phils interested in possibly signing him and trying to get Willingham from Minnesota or sign Cody Ross.

so, I assume the phillies own stock in geritol or viagra at this point if they truly go out and get Youk, Ichiro, Granderson - their ages add up to over a c-note

do they ever try to get the younger guys?

regardless, I am impatient (being that I am old)...I NEED TO SEE THE PHILS MAKE A MOVE ALREADY!!!

Question: will they make a move before the world ends (Mayan prophesy of 12/21)?

Given the lack of quality young players available in free agency,(remember Bourn is 30), the age of the current team and the status of our minor leagues, I'm not totally against a strategy of signing/ acquiring veteran players with a track record of success to take one last shot with this core of players in 2013.

This way you are not taking on any bad contracts beyond 2013 and with the probable departure of Utley, Halliday and maybe Ruiz at years end, you can rebuild and have plenty of payroll space long term and it gives you another year to develop your minor leagues and hope to see continued growth with Pettibone, May, Beddle, Martin, Morgan Asche etc.

If there are moves for younger players that can fill a hole long term, by all means , make those moves, I just don't see those players available in free agency or via trade.

It's decidedly not entertaining watching the Phils' holes not get filled. Suddenly Amaro is smart for NOT addressing the needs he created by a series of bad decisions? I suspect we are headed for another disappointing season.

Young is a good stopgap for a year... While Asche get another year of grooming.. Kinda like this... As far as CF is concerned... Is pretty clear that the wait is for the Greinke situation. If LA gets him...Hamilton stays...if TEX keeps him... Hamilton comes here. Can't see a guy without a ring going to Seattle. If we don't get Hamilton... Granderson will be the guy for one year.

I'm not sure why the departures of Utley, Halladay, and/or Ruiz are seen as probable. Barring (new) injury, I'd put the odds of the Phillies retaining all three at over 50%. Ruiz may be the most difficult.
