also, apparently the Cubs would eat up around 20mil of Sorianos contract. in retrospect, if Brown is traded, Ruben will have made it perfectly clear hes putting all his chips into winning now and not in the future, in which case Ruben brings in a rh bat in Soriano giving him all the more reason to after the lh bat in Hamilton. so to sum it up, Ruben trades left handed Brown for right handed Soriano, and basically pays peanuts for him. which he than would persue Hamilton. this is the only plausible reason i can think of as to why we would trade Brown for Soriano.

Sounds like Bud Norris is a potential option for us. He hasn't been specifically linked to the Phillies, but he matches the cost and talent profile the Phillies are looking for.

I am still on the Shaun Marcum bandwagon
I'm clearly in the minority here, but I would do this trade in a heartbeat.
Rollins
Utley
Young
Howard
Soriano
Revere
Ruf
Ruiz
Your 2-5 in this scenario will mash. Even moreso if you can convince anyone to flip Rollins and Revere. And forget about it if we somehow land Hamilton.
If CHI eats most of the cash a la TEX for Young then why not? What has Dom done to warrant an everyday job in the OF?
In a perfect world we sign Hamilton or Swisher and let Dom platoob with Ruf, hopefully winning the LF job outright, but he's starting to look like a classic "change of scenery" guy.

I haven't heard much talk on Swisher. His switch hitting better than average bat sounds like a good fit. Any thoughts to why we don't hear his name more?
according to MLBTR...the indians are in aggressive pursuit of nick swisher.
I'd love Soriano and Hamilton, but I'd be content with one of them and a Ruf/ Brown platoob.

Were I in a position to do so, I would strongly advise Ruben to leave a platoon spot open for Brown. Whether that's with Ruf, Mayberry, or Scott Hairston doesn't matter (I'd prefer to also give Ruf a chance).
