Anyone know our cap situation off hand going into the offseason
From what I can find we have ~30M coming off of the books at the end of the season. To be conservative, after raises to players still on the roster and the draft allocation, I would say we have 20M to spend on FAs. Now, I'd imagine that they are going to want to spend some of that on re-signing Melton, Collins, Urlacher, and maybe some others. I would also imagine that they will want to save some of that to be able to work towards an extension for Cutler, and maybe some others. So, I would guess that we would have about 10M max to throw at other FAs.
One thing that scared me durring the game last sunday was when the anouncer mentioned that Urlacher said that if we won the super bowl he would retire. I mean, yes he is up in age, but I think he has a few solid years left. but if he is out, we need to find a replacement fast.
This sort of bugged me also. Its arguable that he is the reason teams can run roughshod on us. The middle of our defense is very vulnerable. I'm just not sure we have what it takes to with the Super Bowl, so essentially he's saying, 'dont expect to win a SB for a couple more seasons.'
I 100% believe this offense is severely missing him. No one can really take the top off of a defense. It is unfortunate, Knox finally would have been in the appropriate role and I think he could have gone for something like 55/1000/5.
If the Bears ever get another catch from Knox I will be shocked. The great thing is, there is a lot of Johnny Knox's in the world. There are guys like Josh Boyce from TCU and Andre Debose from Florida that should be available in the sixth or seventh round.
On the cheaper side, I wonder what the chances John Carlson gets cut by the Queens. Solid all around player if he could stay healthy. With the emergence of Rudolph and Ellison, not really needed.
I think there is a good chance he gets cut after this year. Rudolph is obviously going to be the #1 TE and he is one of Ponder's favorite targets besides Harvin. Plus, like you said, with Ellison playing pretty decently they don't need to have a third string TE making $5 million
I am starting to believe like many of you that urlacher will not be back next year and I cannot think of a good replacement since We cannot get teo or ogletree .... Do yall think there is anychance that next year We shift briggs to MLB he probably knows this def around the same level as urlacher so he can call plays .... And finding someone to take for briggs production won't be as hard urlachers
