Youk breaks down but he is a more productive hitter (a more appropriate for this team type of hitter) than Polly was. Polly broke down just as much, if not more, than Youk as well. Obviously I know the Phillies aren't going after Polly again but Youk is the kinda batter you can bat 2nd or 5th and be happy about it. A more 1 year plus an option or two wouldn't be a bad deal and like I said even a 2 year deal I'd be fine with. Anything more and another team can have him. I'm not sure what type of team would want him though considering his inury history. He's more of a filler type at this point which is what he'd be with the Phillies.

Headley is who everyone should want first though.

I think Headley would be best but the price might be too high

If Headley's out maybe pick up Jeff Keppinger for 3B. Plus he could spell Utley at 2B and Frandsen can cover 3B

As much as I would like to resign JP perhaps spend some $ for an upgrade to BJ Upton

Need some GOOD middle relievers and a setup guy. Then if there's any room maybe an innings eating starter like the old Blanton

Predict the Phillies 2013 Free Agent Signings

no BJ Uptons in my lineup, thank you. only way i'd consider Upton is on the off chase we sign Headley.

Im perfectly fine with giving up the previously proposed package for Headley. Looking at his splits, hes one of the better 3B when taken out of the black hole at Petco. If you can get Headley and Upton can be had at a reasonable price I think thats a pretty good lineup

if they can sign a Swisher, or a Hamilton, or both. im completly fine with Frandsen playing 3B next season.

    Rollins
    Frandsen
    Utley
    Howard
    Hamilton
    Swisher
    Brown/Ruf
    Ruiz

Blah. Swisher apparently wants a Werth deal so idk if he takes less than 5 years. Then theres Hamilton who would probably want 5 as well even tho he shouldnt get more than 3 guaranteed

    buuuuut, Jayson Werth < Swisher/Hamilton

though i do agree Hamilton is high risk.

I wouldnt say that Swisher is better than Werth tbh. Werth is a great player.

I mean, both on the right deals would be great.

I'd go as far as to say that Werth is definitely better than Swisher. By enough that you couldn't confuse them as comps.

edit: In case it's not clear, I'm talking post-2010 Werth vs post-2012 Swisher.

    Starting Pitchers:
    Shaun Marcum/Anibal Sanchez/Dan Haren - I think one of the 3

    Reliever:
Mike Adams 2 year 10m or Jason Frasor 1 year 4m

    Utility Bat:
    Marco Scutaro 1 year 4m
    Juan Pierre/Scott Hairston 1 yr. 2m

Total Cost for this year: $49m

They COULD trade for Headley instead of Keeping Ruf id be surprised though.

    Here is my Projected Roster

    CF Angel Pagan - 7m
    RF Nick Swisher - 14m
    2B Chase Utley - 15m
    1B Ryan Howard - 20m
    SS Jimmy Rollins - 13m
    C Carlos Ruiz - 5m
    LF Domonic Brown - 1m
    3B Darin Ruf - 600k

    Starting Rotation:
    Cole Hamels - 19.5m
    Cliff Lee - 25m
    Roy Halladay - 20m
    Shaun Marcum/Dan Haren/Anibal Sanchez - 10m
    Kyle Kendrick - 4.5m

    Bullpen:
    Jonathan Papelbon - 13m
    Mike Adams/Jason Frasor - 5m
    Jeremy Horst - 600k
    Phillipe Aumont - 600k
    Josh Lindblom - 600k
    Michael Stutes - 600k
    Tyler Cloyd/Antonio Bastardo - 600k

    Bench:
    UTIL Freddy Galvis - 600k
    UTIL Marco Scutaro - 4m
OF John Mayberry Jr. - 600k
    OF Scott Hairston/Juan Pierre - 1.5m
    C Eric Kratz - 600k

That puts them at 181.6M about 3.5m over the Cap Limit. I'd also like to see them take a shot on Jorge De La Rosa
    Nice try.

    No Vance Worley, no prediction.

My offseason addition and subtraction. We need to add 2 outfield players, a solid backend bullpen arm, and maybe a starter. We need to rebuild this team like we did in 2008. In 2008 we had Pedro Feliz at 3rd. Can Fransden be Feliz? Yes. CF- Victorino, I would sign BJ Upton,, he can bat 3rd or 5th, a right handed bat with power and speed, during the 08 world series, they were , saying he could be a 5 tool player. LF- Burrell and Jenkins. Mayberry and Schierholtz, I think can be a nice right-left platoon. Rf- I would sign Pagan, he has played in the division, has speed and plays solid defense, also adds speed to our line-up (a Vizzy style player).

Trade Worley and Cloyd, for BP help. It is cheaper to add BP arms through trade then trying to sign someone. After that I would add a veteran Starter. Edwin Jackson, Erwin Santana, Shawn Marcoum, Anibal Sanchez, Dan Harren. One of these guys to a 2yr deal.

    Line up

    1. Rollins-SS
    2. Pagan-RF
    3. Utley- 2B
    4. Howard- 1B
    5. Upton- CF
    6. Chooch- C
    7. Mayberry-LF
    8. Frandsen- 3B

SP- Hamels, Lee, Halladay, KK, adding a 5th starter

Bench- Galvis, Nix, Ruf, Scherholtz, Kratz, Scutaro or Harriston
