The Tigers made Anibal Sanchez a contract offer earlier in the offseason worth $48MM over four years, reports Jon Heyman of CBS Sports (Twitter link). According to Heyman, Detroit was informed by Sanchez's agent that such an offer would "insult" the right-hander, who is seeking $90MM for six years.
He probably won't sign until after Greinke does, he probably won't get 6/90. Like I've previously said I wouldn't mind signing him for 5/70

As the Angels eye Sean Burnett, they continue to have interest in other relief options, according to MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez (via Twitter). Mike Adams remains a possibility, and the team also checked in on Joakim Soria, though he wants to close.

With a bullpen like that, we don't really need every starter to go 7 innings. Therefore we don't really the "High priced Grienke's"

Yesterday, we heard that the Angels weren't acting like they were confident about landing Zack Greinke, and that they were shifting their focus to the next tier of free agent pitchers. Here are a few more details on their search, along with some details on their hunt for bullpen arms:

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports (Twitter link) singles out Anibal Sanchez and Kyle Lohse as two pitchers the Angels are eyeing, with Greinke's asking price too high for their liking.

If the Angels don't have any success with outside free agents, the team could circle back to Dan Haren, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. The Angels have a history with Haren and have a more favorable view of his medical issues than other clubs (Twitter links).

As MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez reported earlier today, Sean Burnett and Mike Adams are among the relievers the Angels are targeting. The team also inquired on Joakim Soria, but there's likely not a fit there since Soria wants to close.
Please no on Lohse unless its one or two years

Despite ranking as one of the best closers in baseball from 2007-10, Joakim Soria will try his hand at setting up Joe Nathan in 2013. Soria, 28, agreed to a two-year deal with the Rangers today, tweets Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. The deal is worth $8MM, tweets Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. Soria is due for a physical in Arlington tomorrow, tweets MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez. MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez notes that the contract is still being finalized, and it looks like a third-year club option will be included. The longtime Royals closer had Tommy John surgery in April, and the team declined his $8MM club option. Soria is represented by Oscar Suarez.

Uspw_5362472Soria owns a 2.40 ERA, 9.7 K/9, 2.5 BB/9, 0.68 HR/9, and 160 saves in 315 1/3 career innings. The Royals picked him up in the 2006 Rule 5 draft, and he ranks third among franchise saves leaders. The Rangers had a need for a late-inning addition, having lost Mike Adams and Koji Uehara to free agency and Alexi Ogando to the rotation.
I knew we weren't going to sign him, but he didn't have to go to the Rangers.

I still wouldn't mind taking Adams away from them still

I think I would prefer Uehara over Adams since Adams is apparently struggling with Thoracic Outlet Syndrome and could have difficulty keeping healthy. I'm already kind of worried about our entire pitching staff staying healthy as it is.

The Angels are one of many teams in on Edwin Jackson, tweets Heyman.

You have to think that Dipoto is really going to drastically improve the bullpen since he is interested in the low end starters that can go 200 IP.

I always liked Edwin Jackson. He's inconsistent but he's better than Santana.

I'd still rather have Marcum though.
