“When the ones that don’t feel good go in, it’s nice,” Korver said of his game-high 27 point performance. “It was just a good shooting night. … It’s one of those things that when you make some shots you get better screens and you get better passes. They guys did a good job of helping me get open. I don’t create shots on my own. I work off of everybody and just try to play good team basketball.”

Korver’s eight 3-pointers set a Hawks franchise record for 3-pointers in a half, breaking the mark of seven shared by Steve Smith (3/14/97 vs. Seattle) and Henry James (4/15/97 vs. New Jersey). He extended his career-long streak to 37 straight games with at least one 3-pointer, the longest active streak in the NBA. It’s the second-longest streak in Hawks history behind Mookie Blaylock’s 42-game stretch (3/26/96-1/11/97).

Turnovers and not closing out on shooters cost them tonight.

The good news is JT looks more confident and stepped up lately. That high pick-n-roll has been his bread and butter.

Tough loss. One of the few games I don't have to stream on my computer and of course we lose a heartbreaker.

Rookie Mike Scott will begin to see more minutes at small forward in order to boost his playing time.

"I don't want to throw too much at him too fast," Larry Drew said. "He is stil trying to learn the 4 spot." Scott acknowledged the need to work on his defense, but welcomed the challenge and is looking to assert himself as a consistent member of the rotation.

Anthony Morrow returned to full-contact practice Tuesday and the guard says he “definitely” will play Wednesday against the Raptors. Morrow missed the past 17 games with a right hip strain followed by a sore lower back.

What can you say about Horford in the last min of this game. Scored the go ahead bucket on a near perfect fake screen and roll and also got away with two fouls they didn't call in the last min.

Seems like they've been running that same play for the last 10 years and no one can stop it. Oh well, good win.

I thought that was a foul on Al for sure at the end but I'll take the W.

“It was a good play,” Smith said of the final basket. “They were hedging out on Kyle all night long, which is expected because he can knock down jump shot. He has a very quick release. The play was run almost to perfection. Al set the screen and slipped in hard. I was able to thread it down the middle and we got a bucket off it. It’s our fourth-and-one play.

As we pointed out yesterday, as of January 22, the NBA had made 44.7 percent of its 100,607 shots. Atlanta’s Josh Smith has made 44.8 percent of his shots this season. Through that lens, Smith appears to be a normal NBA player, but Smith is far from normal. He has a game that drives people crazy.

Smith arrives at his forgettable overall shooting efficiency by being very efficient near the basket and the worst volume shooter in the NBA away from the basket. So far this season, Smith has made more than 62 percent of his shots close to the basket, which is a value significantly higher than the NBA average. It’s also higher than Tim Duncan’s 60 percent and Dwight Howard’s 61 percent

While it would be unfair to label him the worst jump shooter in the NBA, it is probably fair to claim that he is the worst active jump shooter in the league. Most guys — Tyson Chandler, for example — who can’t shoot 17-footers don’t make a habit of trying anyway. Smith does.

As of January 22, Smith was 80-for-297 (27 percent) outside of 7.5 feet, and 178-for-287 (62 percent) inside that distance. He spends too much time doing stuff he’s not good at. The notion that Smith has more midrange attempts than Al Horford and Lou Williams is simply ridiculous.
