Round 1: Atlanta vs. Indiana | Hawks eliminated

    ____________________
    ATLANTA HAWKS__versus__INDIANA PACERS

    ___

    - Series Schedule -

Game 1 in Indianapolis: Sunday, April 21, 1, TNT
Game 2 in Indianapolis: Wednesday, April 24, 7:30, NBATV

Game 3 in Atlanta: Saturday, April 27, 7:30, ESPN
Game 4 in Atlanta: Monday, April 29, TBA

Game 5 in Indianapolis: Wednesday, May 1, TBA
Game 6 in Atlanta: Friday, May 3, TBA
Game 7 in Indianapolis: Sunday, May 5, TBA

    Season series: Tied 2-2.

Points per game (per 100 possessions): Pacers 94.7, Hawks 98.0 (Pacers 101.6, Hawks 102.7)

Points allowed per game (per 100 possessions): Pacers 90.7, Hawks 97.5 (Pacers 96.6, Hawks 101.8)

Why Atlanta will win: They can shoot. The best answer to a tough defense is hitting every open shot, and Kyle Korver, DeShawn Stephenson and emerging rookie John Jenkins help the Hawks do that around the perimeter. Smith, Horford and point guard Jeff Teague also are more athletic than their counterparts.

Why Indiana will win: No one plays better defense. The Pacers have lock-down defenders at nearly every position, starting with George. When everything is going well, Indiana grinds opponents to a halt. And last year's postseason experience should help.

Yeah, you knew it was coming though. I think they will also have it on SportSouth locally, if that helps.

Ouch. Just more reason to hope to get through then. I'm curious to see Drew handle these playoff rotations. Normally I favor shortening it to maybe 8 guys, but Indy's style combined with all our injuries has me thinking otherwise.

Scott and JJ had good rookie seasons in limited mins. JJ shot 45% FG with 38% 3PT, and both guys played well near the end, Scott avg 18-10 in the last 4 games. Bench scoring is a big factor in this series, we'll need all we can get.

" Josh Smith is the best player in this series. The question is will he prove it?"- Charles Barkely

Don't know that I agree with him as I think Paul George is the best player in this series, but I do like the challenge.

Josh Smith (ankle) was unable to practice on Monday, and his status is day-to-day moving forward.

Smith suffered a sprained ankle in Sunday's Game 1 loss, and although it wasn't initially deemed a huge concern, obviously his absence in practice has us somewhat hesitant about his Game 2 availability. The next one isn't until Wednesday, so J-Smoove has some time to get back on the court.

All I can tell you is... When a team hits basically 50% FG and 40% of 3-pointers in both games and still gets beat convincingly each time, then ummm it's not a good sign. Out-executed, out-hustled, out-coached, and out-talented.

We need a marketable star on this team if they want to think about winning playoff series. Sad but true.

My only issue with potentially blowing up the roster is it likely means we'll have to hire another assistant to be the next head coach for the rebuilding process. I'm tired of cheap hires and guys with no prior NBA HC experience.
