    A stupid question?

My buddy (non-steelers fan) came up to me and asked why don't the Steelers just trade troy and harrison?

At first i gave it zero thought and then i started playing with the thought of what we could get in return? What is the most you'd logically need in return to trade those two away?

(I know trades aremt the steelers way and all that so dont take the question any farther than what it is cuz im not saying we should either)

I think the problem with Troy is despite the injuries; what do you consider fair value for a game changing once a lifetime safety. Our defense is a different beast even with 75% of Troy out there.

A for James....why not?? I think this is the start of his downfall. Injuries the last two seasons have slowed him down. Our ability to get sacks is 50% design 50% player.

They're both too old and too injured to be traded. That, and the organization's loyalty to its players.

Because when they're healthy, they're still the best in the business. As we've been learning with Emmanuel Sanders, being injured a few times doesn't make you a bad and expendable player.

I meant at he end of the year not during the year. I should have been more clear.

See i don't mean to ask a pointless question but in all honesty i dont think this is a question that most should write off so fast! I absolutely love what harrison and troy have brought to the Steelers but we all know they are on the decline and our defense being so "old" so maybe it would be plausible? (don't think i am a stupid fan im just playing devils advocate and tossing it back and forth in my own mind)

Since we still value them so much don't you think we could hold teams to king's ransome?

You mean the injury last season where he was smashed in the face and broke his eye socket? I don't think that really had much to do with age. This year the knee problems are probably due to age, but last year when he had 9 sacks in 11 games, which averages out to 13 sacks over a full 16 game season, I think he was still at his best.

No I got that, and I agree as long as Worilds or Carter show something or we draft a stud pass-rusher early. Actually, nevermind. Only if Worilds and Carter show something. If we take a pass-rusher, let the kid (I can say that now that I'll finally be older than a lot of the players in this draft class) sit and learn behind Harrison.

I would trade Harrison in a heartbeat if someone offered a minimum 1st round pick. Troy should retire a Steeler hands down. But with the emergence of Chris Carter, and having Jason Worilds, I have no issues moving Harrison if a good package was offered. Of course we would have to draft more pass rushers though.

I don't think a team would even give us a 2nd for Harrison right now. He'd have to play very lights out the rest of the year.
